Position Summary:
The Project Engineer (PE) will be responsible for providing overarching technical coordination and leadership for program specific engineering efforts. Efforts will be focused toward COTS integration for military communications systems. The PE will lead a design team to perform, prepare, review, analyze, and modify system designs, technical documents and data packages for COTS based military equipment to ensure customer requirements are satisfied.
*This is a part-time position (10-20 hours/week)
Responsibilities:
- Perform trade studies and participate in equipment selection
- Generate and review system hardware documentation
- Participate in integrated product teams and engineering/design reviews
- Develop and complete detailed reviews of Technical Data Packages
- Mentor and motivate junior engineers
- Design and analysis of mechanical systems, equipment, and packages for electronics
- Conduct feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs
- Directs support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing, and prototype fabrication
- Provides design information for drafting of packaging documentation
- Facilitate and oversee drawing change processes for engineering change notifications/proposals (ECNs/ECPs)
- Other duties as assigned
Experience:
- Strong leadership, Project Engineering, and design skills
- Exceptional presentation, oral and written communications skills required
- Must have demonstrated experience involving project planning, scheduling, and execution and related experience in system integration, detailed system analysis, and risk and trade-off analysis
- Experience with fabrication methods of sheet metal and machined parts
- Familiarity with MIL-STD Environmental testing (901D, 167, 810…)
- Proficiency using Solid Works 3D Modeling and AutoCAD software
- Strong technical, managerial, interpersonal, written and verbal skills are a must
- Ability to operate effectively in a team environment as well as independently
- Ability to provide direct interface with customers
- Ability to take direction and constructive criticism
- Strong task delegation, multitasking, and time management skill
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project is essential
Qualifications and Educational Requirements:
- This position requires a U.S. Government granted personnel security clearance at the Secret level. Individual must be able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance eligibility for employment.
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering technology related field, preferably Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and 6+ years cumulative experience in design, integration, and installation of technical systems (preferably Navy shipboard/shore military systems)
- Must be able to travel 5% or as needed
- Job Located at a U.S. Government Facility
- U.S. Citizenship is required
Preferred:
- Existing U.S. Government granted personnel security clearance at the Secret level
- Master’s degree preferred
- Engineering experience related to one or more of the following NAVWAR programs: ADNS, CANES, ISNS, SubLAN, CENTRIX or SCI Networks
- Naval Installation Requirement Drawings (IRD) or Installation Control Drawing (ICD) experience a plus
- Experience with ASME Y14.1 drawing practices is highly desired
- Familiarity with PC/workstation HW, servers, routers, switches, hubs, ATM, VMEC, power supplies, and encryption devices desired
