Work Shift
1 - First Shift
The Project Engineer - Hydraulics leads a Hydraulics design team to develop innovative solutions for complex power and driveline systems. This position leads NVH engineering projects, team development, and continuous improvement of hydraulic development methods, practices, and standards. This role applies in-depth hydraulic technical knowledge, customer requirements, broad product knowledge, and feedback from stakeholders to impact hydraulic development throughout product segments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Lead by exhibiting the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused and stewardship while modeling the associated behaviors. Supervise, organize, mentor and coach assigned team members in performance of their duties while influencing others to carry the Vermeer culture forward. Establish and monitor individual and team goals which are aligned with the organization's strategies and objectives to drive key business results. Use expertise to ensure department is serving its internal and external customers and meeting defined expectations.
2. Lead evaluation, design, build and test for complex hydraulic and control systems on a wide variety of industrial equipment.
3. Demonstrate expertise in open/closed loop hydraulic systems and hydraulic control theory. Specify hydraulic functional requirements, design complex hydraulic circuits and provide critical review of complex hydraulic system design.
4. Deliver technical leadership by building rapport with engineering teams to create influence and impact product segments. Mentor less experienced hydraulics engineers.
5. Create concepts and prototypes for customers. Solicit feedback from stakeholders including product managers and product engineering to evaluate potential solutions for cost, manufacturability, reliability, and customer value.
6. Lead customer and dealer visits. Operate equipment in test environments and in application to understand customer requirements.
7. Research hydraulic and controls industry technologies, intellectual property, and industrial equipment trends. Lead discussion with hydraulic and controls vendors.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Agriculture or Electrical Engineering or related engineering field with a minimum of 5 years previous job experience.
- Or other 2- or 4-year college degree with a minimum of 10 years of related experience; and/or combination of equivalent education and experience is required.
Computer Skills
- Expert in operating SolidWorks software or other similar 3D modeling software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Proficient in operating multiple NVH analytic, data acquisition, and processing software including, but not limited to, B&K, nCode Glyphworks, LMS, Dewesoft, ANSYS, MathCAD, MATLAB and Simulink.
Other Skills and Abilities
- Ability to create, critically review and edit professional and error free white papers, standards and best practices used to share learnings.
- Demonstration of good verbal and written communication skills to influence others and enact change.
- Demonstration of proficiency in DC electrical systems and control system theory. Ability to specify control functional requirements, create simple harnesses and provide critical review of Simulink graphical code. Demonstration of basic understanding of AC electrical systems.
- Demonstration of proficiency in open/closed loop hydraulic systems and hydraulic control theory. Ability to provide hydraulic functional requirements, design simple hydraulic circuits and provide critical review hydraulic system design.
- Ability to calculate and evaluate using engineering skills including, but not limited to, Free-body diagrams, structural hand calcs, S-N curves, fan performances curves, thermodynamics, multiple DOF isolator selection, transmissibility curves, torsional vibration, and spring-mass-damper functions.
- Ability to break complex engineering problems down using engineering first principles and root cause.
- Ability to provide informative and professional assistance when working with customers and co-workers and maintain positive interpersonal relationships which encourage openness.
- Ability to operate steel fabrication equipment such as drills, lathes, brake press as well as hand and power assembly tools.
- Ability to operate a wide variety of mobile equipment. Train others on proper operation.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration
Fundamental of Engineering Exam and PE preferred.
Certified fluid power hydraulic specialist (CFPHS) and/or Certified hydraulic fluid power engineer (CFPE).
At least one certification must be completed within 2 years of accepting this position.
Travel
Up to 20% domestic and/or international travel by car or plane may be required.
Work Location
ONSITE: A team member's day-to-day work is best done on a Vermeer campus. If work content can be occasionally completed at an offsite location, discuss potential arrangements with your manager.
