Petoskey Plastics is seeking a Project Engineer who will be responsible for supporting company growth plans by scheduling, planning, forecasting and managing all technical activities aimed at assuring project accuracy and quality from conception to completion, on-time and within budget. The Project Engineerwill drive improvement through researching technology and process/equipment optimizations, as well as potential upgrades to existing equipment. Responsible for supporting the manufacturing and maintenance teams.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Determine equipment specifications to manufacture required products as well as upgrades needed for production enhancements in support of corporate revenue and profit goals.
- Lead project development to include scope, execution strategy, and cost estimates. Write/submit project charters for approval.
- Prepare, schedule, coordinate, and monitor assigned engineering projects. Manage contractor labor, work standards for projects, and costs.
- Collaborate with Purchasing to select vendors for projects and negotiate contract terms.
- Work with a team during repair, installation, and modification of new and existing equipment.
- Execute multiple projects while meeting safety, cost and schedule goals.
- Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications.
- Communicate project status: actual vs. budget, timelines, action items, etc.
- Analyze and research technology and resource needs in order to recommend projects in support of corporate goals.
- Ensure ongoing development of manufacturing processes by remaining current with emerging manufacturing technologies.
- Act as an agent for change and challenge the status quo to drive manufacturing process improvements.
- Review engineering deliverables and initiate corrective actions where appropriate
- Research and make recommendations regarding process improvement action plans/policies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas requiring improvement.
- Provide technical manufacturing process support to improve safety, quality, cost and efficiency as needed.
- Assist in troubleshooting manufacturing equipment, analyzing maintenance problems and equipment/part failures.
- Foster the use and implementation of work instructions, setup instructions, and other related process documentation to improve long term product quality by reducing variability.
- Prepare and maintain detailed layouts of buildings and equipment.
- Prepare and report out at management reviews as needed.
- Support & promote plant Safety Committee initiatives as needed.
- Incorporate/facilitate shop floor organization and plant cleanliness (6S).
- Support environmental stewardship at each of the facilities.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills preferred:
- BS degree in Engineering or relevant field
- Hands-on mechanical and/or electrical experience
- Commitment to quality work & continuous improvement
- Ability to analyze performance trends/data and draw conclusions geared towards improvement
- An understanding of various PLC platforms (ability to write programming is a plus)
- Willing to be on call for manufacturing trouble shooting and support of 24- hour manufacturing operation
- Knowledge of plastics, blown film and printing
- Ability to work in and foster a strong team environment with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of design and visualization software such as CAD
- Ability to work within multiple discipline projects
- Project management and supervision skills
- Strong verbal & written communication skills
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Strong MS Office skills
Valid driver's license and passport required.
This position will be working from a manufacturing plant with travel to each of the other plants as needed, approximately 40% on production floor and 60% at desk. Ability to climb towers of 75 ft., work in hot and cold temperatures, be able to lift +/- 50 pounds occasionally. Able to travel by car or airplane. Approximately 50% travel required.
