 Under direct supervision will support and assist the MAAC Child Development Program (CDP) and Program Support staff to identify, develop and implement strategies to meet the cognitive, social, emotional and physical needs of the children and their families in accordance with the policies, procedures and philosophy of MAAC and its CDP and in compliance with the Head Start/Early Head Start Performance Standards and State regulations,. The incumbent will participate as a member of a transdisciplinary care and case coordination team and will engage in monitoring and offering support to help ensure successful implementation of the Head Start model.  Supportive interventions will include providing training and technical assistance, health and psycho-education, and referrals to in-house and community resources; performs other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Utilizes a relationship and strengths-based, developmental and family-centered eco-systemic framework to engage in and facilitate a transdisciplinary care and case coordination team model, assisting in all Program Support areas.
• Reviews child files and other record-keeping systems to identify needs and develop and implement supportive strategies; provides ongoing and responsive assistance.
• Observes classroom and center environments to identify needs, offer recommendations, and provide support to help ensure fidelity to the Head Start model and MAAC Standard Operating Procedures.
• Partners with, develops, and provides training and technical assistance to staff and parents, parent interns and/or volunteers in the areas of education, health/nutrition, family partnerships, and social services.
• Maintains knowledge of available community resources necessary to address child/family needs, and makes appropriate referrals ensuring successful linkages.
• Assists program staff to increase their knowledge in setting school readiness goals with parents.
• Provides guidance (i.e. coaching - training and technical assistance) to family service workers, other involved staff and advocates.
• Engages in and promotes reflective practice opportunities to enhance positive family connections program staff.
• Ensures proper record-keeping, maintaining progress notes and file documentation of contacts and efforts.
• Utilizes ChildPlus data management system; actively monitors ChildPlus reports and follows up to ensure compliance.
• Participates and attends meetings, trainings and conferences, as needed.
• Provides support to service areas such as Family Community Engagement, Administration, Governance and/or Health/Nutrition service areas.
• Assists with required screenings including vision, hearing, blood pressure, and growth assessments and the tracking and monitoring of family partnership agreements and family outcomes.
• Conducts and/or assists with Child and Adult Care Food Program facility monitoring visits.
• Guides center staff to partner with parents to support their children’s learning and school readiness.
• Assists with the coordination of childcare for parent meetings, trainings and QPI Parenting Skills trainings.
• Aids with processing parent stipend requests.
• Coordinates data collection for multiple parent outcome surveys.
• Guides and promotes strategies for successful school transitions.  
• Participates in the coordination and facilitation of Family Services Professional Learning Community meetings.

• Bachelor’s degree in social science, psychology, health, or a closely related human services field
• Two years of progressively responsible experience providing direct services to young, low income children and families of diverse cultural backgrounds
• Two years providing training and technical assistance in an evidence-based model program preferred
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and databases such as ChildPlus
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) speaking, reading, and writing preferred

HEALTH STATUS

Must have a physical examination, TB clearance and a drug screen by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC as well as immunization records for influenza*, pertussis and measles as required by state and federal regulations prior to the first day of employment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this class, an employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit, talk or hear both in person and by telephone, uses hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls, reach with hands and arms. An employee also is regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl, climb or balance and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret information; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret people and situations; use basic math; learn and apply new information or skills; work under intensive deadlines and interact with MAAC management, administrators, staff, teachers, parents, family members, children and others encountered in the course of work.

BACKGROUND CLEARANCE

All positions are subject to a background/education check, DMV check, NSOR, exclusion and debarment checks prior to hire and periodically throughout employment as required by various funding sources.

Note: California Start law requires background criminal checks on anyone who works in a licensed childcare facility who is not a client. Must have or obtain a current criminal background check clearance, signed criminal record statement, and signed Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form prior to the first day of employment.

TRANSPORTATION

Must have and maintain a valid California Driver’s License, daily use of a personal, insured vehicle, and have and maintain a motor vehicle driving record acceptable to MAAC’s insurance carrier. Incumbents will be enrolled in the California DMV Pull Program.
