Position Highlights
Research Development Services at the University of Arizona is seeking a collaborative and curious individual to join our team as a Program Officer for Research Workshops (research Program Admin Officer III). The new team member will work with faculty and members of our institutional leadership to develop and execute compelling Research Workshops in Tucson and at the UArizona DC Center (or other locations) on behalf of the UArizona research enterprise. This position will have primary responsibility for working with faculty and translating the needs of the organizing committee into comprehensive Research Workshops and follow-up reports. Further this position will supervise the meeting logistics team to ensure flawless execution of the workshop. Experience in obtaining research workshop funding from federal and foundation sources is a plus. Curiosity is required as this individual will need to work with teams spanning disciplines.
The new team member joins a team of Research Development professionals that provide full-service support for the University of Arizona campus. Successful candidates will have a high level of collegiality as they transition workshops into research teams, supported by Research Development Associates, in pursuit of further funding.
The Research Development (RD) Associates of RDS:
Consult with UA faculty and researchers regarding near-, medium-, and long-term funding strategies, Consult with UA faculty and researchers regarding fit with funder and solicitation, and Support UA faculty members and researchers or teams of UA faculty members with the planning and execution of funding proposals ranging from single-investigator to multi-investigator/multi-institution efforts by providing strategic guidance, document review, technical editing, proposal management, and additional services (see What to expect.

Disseminate information of interest to UA faculty via the weekly newsletter, "The Current", and Limited Submissions Newsletter Manage limited submissions, Assist with proposal collection and review of internal funding programs, Present seminars and workshops on grantsmanship-related topics, and Support UA faculty members with the development of honorific nominations.

Duties & Responsibilities
Duties & responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and perform day-to-day activities in support of Research Workshops. Specifically, working with faculty-led or leadership teams to facilitate and host meetings of the organizing committees, develop agendas, invite presenters and participants, and ensure an overall coordinated experience for the organizing committee and participants of the workshop. Support the pursuit of funding for Research Workshops including funding from federal sponsors (e.g., NSF, NIH, USDA, DoE, DoD, etc.) and foundations.
  • Leads the coordination of the Research Development proposal development workshop series, including but not limited to the NSF CAREER writing program, the NIH for Early Stage Investigators program, and others. Further, supports federal Program Officer visits to campus. These activities are in close coordination and collaboration with Research Development Associates.
  • Serves as a contact for internal and external stakeholders to coordinate activities, exchange information, and deliver reports. Specifically, prepare documents both in preparation for and concluding the research workshop. Activities may include gathering research materials, synthesizing and editing workshop findings, conducting background research on topics for new workshops, providing assistance in preparing reports, including writing sections of report based on committee input and review and editing the report for format, consistency, and grammar.
  • Working with communications professionals internal and external to the University, manage the dissemination of reports and other types of publications resulting from the workshops.
  • Supervises and oversees the meeting logistics team, internal as well as as-needed contractors. Develops and monitors project plans including timelines, resource requirements, and budgets.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.

Knowledge, skills & abilities:
  • Knowledge and use of best practices, principles, theories and concepts in support of Research Workshops
  • Ability to coordinate disparate teams that may be based nationally as well as internationally
  • Ability to collaborate extensively both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated skill in organizing complex topics and activities
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities in technical writing and editing

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required and a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in organizing and leading Research Workshops funded by a federal sponsor
  • Experience with the academic research enterprise
