Department Information

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manages overall education and outreach for alcohol, other drug, and recovery (AOD) programs, designed to increase the enrollment, matriculation, and retention of at-risk students
2. Assists with strategic planning, assessment, and evaluation of comprehensive substance use, addiction, and recovery initiatives
3. Recruits, trains, and advises undergraduate Peer Educators and Student Ambassadors
4. Leads the JED campus/community substance use and recovery strategic initiative and develops goals and objectives that support student well-being and success
5. Provides a comprehensive, non-judgmental collegiate AOD misuse, prevention, intervention, and education program based on evidence-based strategies and recovery-informed techniques
6. Conducts on-going needs assessments, annual surveys, and program evaluations to measure ongoing effectiveness and impact of programs and services.
7. Provides outreach and education to USG institutions and, at the national level for Collegiate Recovery programming, recommends best practices in alcohol and other drug education, substance use, misuse, and addiction
8. Informs policy and decision-making on campus related to student health and substance use, misuse and addiction, service provisions, and university conduct processes
9. Support the Dean of Students to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal policies, such as the Drug Free Schools and Campuses Act
10. Maintains collaborative relationships with campus partners, including Greeks, athletes, and other student groups to facilitate AOD prevention/intervention and risk management trainings
11. Establish and maintain collaborations with campus partners, including faculty, staff, and students, to support comprehensive prevention and education strategies
12. Conducts a biennial review of AOD programs and services offered to students to assess effectiveness of current programs and services
13. Oversees AOD external funding requests, including donations and grants
14. Monitors the AOD and At-Risk program budget and develops annual financial reports
15. Coordinates use of the Owl Life student engagement software to create and publicize student programs and events, track student participation, and ensure compliance with divisional and university guidelines
16. Provides support for divisional priorities and initiatives beyond the scope of the department, as requested

Job Summary

Develops, organizes and implements comprehensive programs in the assigned college, department and/or unit. Responsible for preparing and organizing programs and activities. Promotes programs internal and external to the university and evaluates effectiveness. Ensures programs comply with university and USG policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES*:
1. Develops, prepares, coordinates and implements assigned programs
2. Manages and facilitates department communications including program marketing, website creation, mobile applications and social media
3. Serves as liaison and communicates with academic divisions, colleges and departments
4. May assists in developing, monitoring and managing budget processes
5. Manages event planning, marketing and logistics
6. Interprets, evaluates, develops and implements policies and procedures
7. Creates, administers, and analyzes assessment programs
8. Facilitates program components, post-program evaluation and operational reporting
9. Assists with developing new programming
10. Prepares operational reports and analysis to inform center-level reporting and decision-making
11. May supervise assigned staff and/or student assistants

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in related field
Required Experience
Three (3) years of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree in student personnel, higher education, or related field from an accredited institution of higher education

Additional Preferred Experience (Prerferred Qualifications)
A demonstrated passion for and/or experience supporting student success in a diverse and complex environment

Ability to establish and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with key campus stakeholders
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
SKILLS
Excellent project management skills; Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e. Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
