Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Facility Chief Operating Officer (COO), this position provides the overall leadership for the respective unit(s) including staffing and functioning of staff, daily programming for clients, and all administrative and clinical operations of the designated treatment unit(s).
- Demonstrates the ability to operate in a professional manner regarding confidentiality, cooperation, collaboration, and competence.
- Assists Direct Care Staff and delegates job responsibilities as needed, assures staff on duty follow daily schedule, assures staff on duty follow all Operating Procedures and are always properly supervising clients, assures the cleanliness and safe operation of the unit, assists with establishing a trauma-informed care unit with the goal of no behavior management or use of physical restraints unless in emergency situations only.
- Make decisions along with other appropriate managers in a crisis or emergency, such as: determining when a resident should be transported to the emergency room when ill or injured; determining when a resident should be evaluated by a member of the organization’s medical team, at a hospital or clinic; and/or making a change to the daily program schedule.
- Assist with scheduling and document on-going issues or concerns to appropriate Shift Supervisor(s) and work toward an effective resolution.
- Assure all shifts are filled, state required staffing ratios are met, and clients and staff are always safe.
- Facilitates the performance evaluation of all staff who report directly to him/her. Assist in providing and documenting employee discipline for any violations, including termination.
- Communicates with the COO, Unit Managers, Therapists, and Case Managers routinely as needed.
- Responsible for the development, management and operation of assigned programs or services in accordance with all applicable state licensing standards and facility policies and procedures.
- Responsible for the daily schedule of youth, activities, level system, outings, grievances and visits.
- Responsible for leading by example and modeling strong leadership, ethical conduct, honesty and credibility, and respect. Responsible for creating and maintaining a highly productive and healthy working environment.
- Provides the necessary structure and supervision to ensure the safety, security, treatment, education, and programming of youth.
- Motivates and inspires employees to work hard to attain the program goals and objectives, treatment outcomes, quality, safety, and overall welfare along with the organization’s mission; all rules, regulations, and licensing standards; organizational goals; and corporate goals.
- Works cooperatively and supportively in this important leadership position and functions professionally and effectively with management, staff, and other customers at all levels.
- Gathers, organizes, assesses, evaluates, synthesizes, formats, displays, understands, and communicates information in verbal and written mediums and reports.
- Promotes the organization’s services to customers, referral sources, and other stakeholders including good public relations and outreach to the community.
- Exercises fiscal responsibility for all financial/budgetary decisions including the allocation of resources in an efficient and effective manner; appropriate staffing, supervision, and expense control; and the overall responsibility for the management of the organization’s operations in accordance with its capital and operating budgets, and other goals and objectives of the organization.
- Is always knowledgeable and conversant while facilitating work activities and processes to maintain compliance with all applicable licensing standard, rules, regulations and related federal, state and county requirements the facility must meet.
- Demonstrates a good moral, ethical and professional example for management, staff, and youth to model their actions and behavior including conduct, speech, work habits, work product, effort, performance, etc.
- Participates in administrator on-call.
Other Duties Include:
- Maintain a high standard of role model behavior for youth.
- Participate in training and development activities as required.
- Report any acts, incidents or conditions that reflect the possibility of inappropriate youth-to-youth or staff-to-youth relationships.
- Report any use of physical force and all unusual incidents per guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
