Job Description
The Program Director of Youth Development will work collaboratively with internal teams and stakeholders to support the planning, implementation and oversight of school-based Out of School Time (OST) programming for youth K-12 in Baltimore City community schools. The Program Director of Youth Development will support high quality programming through utilizing proven tools/models, continuous improvement and intentional capacity building efforts. The Program Director of Youth Development will lead a small team that supports a cohort of Youth Development programs who work directly with schools, community-based partners, staff and other stakeholders to support positive outcomes for young people. This position requires a person to fulfill job responsibilities in ways that support an equitable and inclusive environment for colleagues, partners and community stakeholders.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Provide leadership, strategic vision and guidance to internal teams, partners and other stakeholders that incorporate Youth Development best practices, research and technical approaches into design that support positive Youth Development outcomes.
In collaboration with stakeholders, develop, manage, communicate and oversee a comprehensive Youth Development plan aligned to data, needs and priorities.
Work collaboratively with internal teams to define and achieve goals/outcomes, set expectations around program design/quality, create a scope of work and reporting requirements for funded partners.
Establish and leverage strategic partnerships and relationships that meet identified needs and support goals while deepening and expanding the work; Establish and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders including funded partners through frequent communication, intentional engagement, problem-solving and decision making - leveraging expertise to strengthen programs and meet identified goals.
Support effective and relevant Youth Development programming with a focus on results, impact and deliverables; Integrate proven quality models in all aspect of work and collaborate with and guide Youth Development stakeholders to develop and observe standards of excellence in Youth Development programming; Ensure implementation of high-quality programs through innovative program development, evaluations, and ongoing capacity building.
Review data requirements needed for evaluation and implement processes to facilitate its collection while communicating the importance of evaluation to program stakeholders; Implement and support program performance and evaluation strategies in collaboration with internal teams and stakeholders.
Develop, collect and analyze data to identify areas of improvement and expansion; Review and analyze programmatic data to address challenges, make decisions, develop new strategies, plan for continuous improvement and leverage resources to improve program performance.
Work in collaboration with teams and stakeholders to provide capacity building activities/resources that are responsive to the needs of funded partner organizations; Support the creation of a professional development plan that leverages funded partner subject matter expertise, is aligned to data/recognized competencies and standards, supports needs/trends, and incorporates national best practices.
Work closely with the Communications Team and other stakeholders to advocate for and share the impact of Youth Development programs.
Provide proactive, supportive, and person-centered supervision to a small team; Provide sound technical and management support and coaching for Youth Development projects.
Other Functions
Oversee the effective and timely management of Youth Development special projects, events, activities and site visits.
Publicly represent and promote Family League’s Youth Development work and expertise to a range of stakeholders through speaking engagements, presentations, conferences/convenings, strategic communications and other forms of engagement.
Submit reports and outcome measures periodically and as requested.
Coordinate with internal teams to develop high quality Requests for Proposals in line with Family League’s policies to procure vendors who can lead high quality Youth Development programs.
Work collaboratively to develop a budget and monitor it throughout the year.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Programs.
Qualifications
Demonstrated commitment to Family League’s core values, passionate and exemplifies thought leadership in Youth Development programming; Ability to work cooperatively with diverse stakeholders towards a common goal through a lens of collective impact.
Commitment to working with a diverse team and implementing equitable, anti-racist, and culturally inclusive practices and participating in dialogue on equity.
Knowledge of Community Schools and Youth Development best practices; Certification in Advancing Youth Development (AYD), Youth Program Quality Intervention (YPQI) or equivalent preferred. Strong familiarity with public education, including the Community School strategy in Baltimore City; A minimum of three years’ experience working with youth, family and community serving programs.
Ability to set and guide strategic vision and goals for Youth Development and contribute to setting aligned goals.
Excellent organization, planning, project management, presentation and technical writing skills.
Strong oral and written communication skills, in addition to exemplary organizational skills and attention to detail; Ability to be focused and detailed, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects and tasks.
Demonstrates a strong commitment to quality programs and improving Youth Development in Baltimore.
Agile learning skills that lead to personal and group learning of practices and continuous improvement.
Ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Proven ability to identify needs and work with stakeholders to develop realistic solutions; Adept at building strong working relationships across a wide variety of stakeholder groups.
Excellent technology skills including all Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Sharepoint, Word, Power Point, Outlook), database experience and the ability to quickly learn new systems.
Experience in leading, motivating, developing and managing a small diverse team is preferred.
Maryland residency is a requirement - Baltimore City residency strongly preferred; Must be able to work in a hybrid environment.
