Job description

The Program Assistant will be directed by the Program Director in Various Programs at the Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:
• Attend and participate in the weekly Program Management Team meeting.
• Act as Program Director during Program Director's absence.
• Assist in the selection and assignment of support and clinical staff, students, and volunteers assigned to the program.
• Ensure that each clinician meets the Hospital's requirements for professional licensure, and that those who possess a license, maintain a current license as a condition of continued employment.
• Act as Program Forensic Liaison. Demonstrate the ability to problem-solve forensic concerns, maintain the program's court calendar, and the distribute subpoenas.
• Ensure appropriate protocols, treatment activities, and accurate documentation processes are followed.
• Function as leader for the program's treatment planning process management team.
• Meet with teams regularly to address assessment, education, treatment, and training issues.
• Act as facilitator or co-facilitator with the Program Director for program meetings.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment program and its components to ensure treatment modalities are in keeping with accepted standards. Reviews the Treatment Plans for quality assurance and timeliness.
• Provide direct administrative supervision of interdisciplinary and other staff within the program, as assigned by the Program Director. Complete annual performance appraisal evaluations on all staff supervised in a timely manner.
• Identify opportunities for performance improvement of assigned staff, including working with performance deficiencies and training needs.
• Ensure treatment services are delivered and documented in a timely manner.

1. BE LIST ELIGIBLE: Successfully complete the competitive State civil service exam pertaining to this classification at Program Assistant Exam Bulletin , OR
2. BE TRANSFER ELIGIBLE: Have current employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable (employees who wish to be considered based on transfer eligibility must meet the minimum qualifications of the classification per DPA Rule 250), OR
3. BE REINSTATEMENT ELIGIBLE: Have obtained previous permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable.
*Minimum qualifications will be verified prior to being scheduled for an interview. Please provide proof of minimum qualifications with your application submission, which may include a copy of your unofficial college transcripts and/or out of class paperwork .
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either I: Two years of clinical nursing experience in the Department of Mental Health performing the duties of a class comparable in level of responsibility to that of a Supervising Registered Nurse or Unit Supervisor in a treatment program for the mentally disabled. OR II: Two years of clinical experience as a psychiatric social worker, psychologist, rehabilitation therapist, or teacher in a treatment program for the mentally disabled.
*If it is determined that an applicant does not meet the minimum qualifications, the applicant's name may be removed from the eligibility list.
Working Conditions
This position requires you to work within the Secured Treatment Area (STA).
Hybrid schedule availability is based on supervisor approval upon completion of appropriate onsite job orientation.
