Description
Cary's Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources team is seeking a highly organized and enthusiastic Program Assistant II to support Sports Programs. This position will assist Sports staff in sports league and event implementation, project development, and administrative duties, playing a critical role in providing high-quality sports leagues and programs for the community.
Work will require public contact, depending upon the specific assignment. May require driving.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year. Work schedule will vary depending upon assignment and may include evenings and weekends.
Typical Tasks
Performs work planning and implementing youth and adult sports leagues, such as volunteer recruitment, monitoring registration, practice and game scheduling and rescheduling, conducting tryouts, and conducting league drafts;
Performs work in support of sports league management, such as uniform ordering and distribution, equipment ordering and distribution, award ordering and distribution, volunteer training and certification, and facility reservation entry;
Performs marketing tasks, such as creating brochures, posters, flyers, social media posts, etc.;
Maintains databases and performs data entry and processing;
Performs general office duties;
Engages in significant telephone contact with the public;
Assists with various aspects of Sports programs and special events;
Performs other job-related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the rules, customs, and culture of baseball, softball, basketball, and volleyball, and general knowledge of other sports; good organizational skills; general knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; ability to complete assignments accurately and prior to the established deadline; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to be a self-starter; ability to work independently; knowledge and competency, or ability to learn, in Salesforce, Office, and Google platforms; ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and the public; ability to lift moderately heavy items and move freely in order to visit activity sites and handle equipment; ability to read and write handwritten and typewritten materials and view/use a computer terminal.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED. Prefers some coursework or equivalent experience in recreation/sport management.
Experience planning and implementing sports leagues or programs is preferred.
Conditions of Employment
Requires possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
Temporary, Seasonal, and Intern Employees
