Job description

Job Summary

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Purdue University invites applications for a position at the Associate/Full level. The department seeks candidates with an established program of research that contributes to promoting diversity in developmental and family science, in particular those who aim to understand the unique strengths, contexts, and communities of underrepresented and marginalized (URM) families. We are especially interested in scholars whose work focuses on ethnic and cultural variations in families and development, racialized experiences, health and/or disparities, immigrant families, community-based participatory research, educational processes related to dual language learners, family systems and involvement in URM child and adolescent, the psychosocial experience of vulnerable and culturally diverse populations, and families affected by poverty or other adverse circumstances. This position would complement existing work being conducted in the department and college on Latinx, Multiracial, Asian American, and Black youth and families, and cross-cultural development. Applicants with research experience in childhood through adolescence are particularly welcome.

About HDFS

Human Development and Family Studies is a multi-disciplinary department located in the College of Health and Human Sciences. The department affords many opportunities to develop interdisciplinary collaborative research. Other research foci in the department include diverse family systems, biological underpinnings of normative and non-normative development and health, advanced methodology, health & well-being, interpersonal relations, and military families. HDFS faculty are involved in a wide range of cross-campus initiatives including the HHS Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Science Consortium, the Center for Aging and the Life Course, Advanced Methods at Purdue, the Purdue Autism Research Center, the Women's Global Health Institute, and the Purdue Policy Research Institute.

HDFS maintains spacious and well-equipped research facilities and centers, including the Ben & Maxine Miller Laboratory Preschool, the Military Family Research Institute, Cooperative Extension, the Center for Families, and the Center for Early Learning. The successful candidate will be responsible for initiating, conducting, and publishing research, including procuring internal and external funding; teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in HDFS; mentoring undergraduate and graduate students; and engaging in service at the campus, community, state, and/or national level. We are seeking a faculty member with an established program of research capable of attracting external funding. Evidence of past or existing funding is highly valued. Applicants with a commitment to, and history of, positive contributions to improving the climate for students from underrepresented and/ or marginalized groups are encouraged to apply and should highlight this work in their diversity, equity, and inclusion statement.

Application Process

Applicants should send a cover letter, a research statement, a teaching statement; a curriculum vitae; a statement highlighting the applicant's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; and up to three representative publications to https://careers.purdue.edu/job-invite/21964/. Letters of recommendation will be requested at a later date if the applicant is short-listed. A review of applications will begin on October 15 and continue until the position is filled. Questions about the position may be directed to Dr. Zoe Taylor (zetaylor@purdue.edu), chair of the search committee.

Purdue University's Department of Human Development and Family Studies is committed to advancing diversity in all areas of faculty effort, including scholarship, instruction, and engagement. Candidates should address at least one of these areas in their diversity, equity, and inclusion statement, indicating their past experiences, current interests or activities, and/or future goals to promote a climate that values diversity and inclusion.

Purdue University, the College of Health and Human Sciences, and the Department of Human Development and Family Studies are committed to free and open inquiry in all matters.
