RESIDENT CONTRACTOR SPECIALIST JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Lead risk assessments and safety interactions with resident contractors to assure that they are compliant with all safety and health requirements. Provide clear direction and feedback on safety activities surrounding resident contractors and their interactions with other Solvay employees and service providers.
  • Guide and direct the activities of resident contractors, including but not limited to Rail Car Maintenance, Rail Car Switching, Rail Car Inspection, Vac Truck scheduling and cleaning, and other resident contractor activities as determined.
  • Provide input and direction to the annual Track Maintenance activities.
  • Schedule services of resident contractors to meet the need of all affected groups (Production, Product Handling, Back Office, etc).
  • Facilitate clear and effective communication between the Back Office, Product Handling, and Rail Maintenance and Switching groups. Ensure that the needs of Solvay groups are met by resident contractors within the scope of their contract.
  • Help contractors achieve goals for car dwell, cost, and switching, as directed by Logistics; address and correct shortfalls as they arise.
  • Generate work requests to assist in the planning and organizing of maintenance activities in the outlying areas of the plant; act as an advocate for resident contractors with maintenance activities to ensure that their needs are met.
  • Assure compliance with all environmental regulations and limits.
  • Attend maintenance, production, and performance review meetings which pertain to their activities and represent the needs of the impacted groups. Take a major role in planning and executing shutdowns.
  • Conduct regular area inspections noting safety and housekeeping issues. Report findings

to the Contractor Supervisor so items can be addressed, and provide feedback to Solvay management as needed to address ongoing issues.
  • Maintain and periodically update railyard inventory.

SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB
  • The ability to determine, acquire, and utilize resources efficiently is critical.
  • The ability to identify and define required outputs from existing and new systems and processes
  • This position requires a broad and diversified knowledge of contract administration.
  • Must possess computer and organizational skills.
  • Must have good communication and people skills to direct projects and training.
  • Must be able to lift, pull/push and carry equipment, tools and other objects weighing up to fifty pounds.
  • Must be able to work in dusty, hot, and/or noisy environments and in adverse weather conditions with appropriate available personal protection, which at times is mandatory. This includes, but is not limited to, dust, extreme heat, extreme cold (below zero) high moisture and other extreme conditions.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

EDUCATION, SPECIAL TRAINING, OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED IN PERFORMING JOB
  • High school diploma or GED required. Advanced educational certifications or technical qualifications are a plus.
  • Knowledge in software programs such as Word, SAP and DCS systems are preferred.
  • Must possess safety knowledge of processes in an industrial environment
  • Proven Safety Leader that possess the ability to intervene such that others understand

what it means to work safely.
  • Willingness to correct poor behavior so that performance issues are dealt with early so

that expectations are understood and followed.
  • Experience with rail and transportation systems is a plus
  • Experience with vac trucks and cleaning is a plus.
  • Experience in logistics or supply chain activities is a plus.
