SUMMARY:
Bud & Mary’s Production Associate I (Processing & Extraction) is responsible for the processing and extraction (P&E) of cannabis plant material, including but not limited to drying, extracting, winterizing, and distilling cannabis extracts. This position will also work closely with other teams within Bud & Mary’s cannabis manufacturing facility. The Production Associate I, using batch records and other written instructions, will be expected to work both independently and as part of a team to prepare cannabis for extraction, operate various laboratory equipment to extract and purify cannabis oil, extract and isolate terpenes, and provide extraction records to Extraction Lead and/or Formulation team for entry into Seed-to-Sale system. This position will also be expected to maintain and troubleshoot equipment, pull samples for in-house testing, receive, and verify raw materials and consumables, notify management of ordering needs for all departmental supplies, and other manufacturing related tasks. The work is performed within a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certified facility, thus attention to detail, cleanliness, and a high degree of caution and safety are imperative in this role.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma required.
- Two (2) plus years of experience in a manufacturing/production, laboratory or food service environment preferred.
- Food handler certified preferred (Servsafe).
- Experience with commercial-scale extraction equipment preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the processing, extraction, and formulation of active compounds from Cannabis spp. in a large-scale cannabis manufacturing operation.
- Verify external Cannabis spp. that is brought into the manufacturing facility meets internal specifications and communicating any discrepancies with management.
- Prepare internal and external biomass for extraction by segregation into batch runs/production batches.
- Operate expensive laboratory equipment to extract and purify cannabis oil using a high degree of caution and safety.
- Keep accurate written records and operational logs to ensure cannabis oil was processed and formulated according to company specifications for safety and quality.
- Clean, maintain and troubleshoot all laboratory and extraction equipment.
- Collect, prepare and analyze all in-house flower and oil samples under the guidance of management.
- Monitor daily inventory and notify members of management when supplies are getting low.
- Take pride in the facility and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Work with the Director of Compliance to ensure all extraction procedures are in compliance with State and Local regulations.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Look for continuous improvement of established procedures and bring new ideas forward.
- Take a hands-on approach with training new members to the team.
- Comply with all company policies for hazardous material and hazardous waste storage and handling.
- Maintain production records of both internally and externally sourced material.
- Work overtime as needed to meet production goals.
- Assist with larger company operations, including receiving deliveries, facility maintenance and general cleanliness in the extraction rooms and laboratories.
- Comply with all company policies, including confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements.

PHYSICAL EFFORT NEEDED:
- Must be able to stand on your feet for 8 hours a day.
- Must be able to execute the same task for up to 8 hours a day.
- Must be able to work in hot or cold environments.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to handle expensive company assets from various positions (i.e., standing, bending, kneeling).
- Must be able to read and write numbers and letters and count.
- Must be able to see in color.
- Must be able to hear at least 88 dBA.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Requires the use of flammable, corrosive, and/or toxic chemicals, which can be harmful if not used properly.
- Exposure to Cannabis spp., dust, varying temperatures, humidity levels and light intensities, high decibel sounds and some solvents.
- Potential exposure to insects, pesticides, and plant growth regulators.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
- Safety shoes, safety glasses, dust and surgical masks, ear protection, hair/beard nets, various types of gloves, lab coat, chemical resistant sleeves
TRAVEL:
- Some travel may be required for training purposes and for staying abreast of industry developments.
