Job description

Work with project managers, engineers, and project estimators/detailers in the Project Management group of the American Ductile Iron Pipe Division to implement and maintain configuration software and JDE systems to support Order Entry, Manufacturing, Purchasing and other business activities and changes to these activities from a product perspective for the American SpiralWeld Pipe (ASWP) product line. Work with other divisions/departments to implement changes in our business system to support new products or changes in how we do business relating to the manufacturing or purchase of products for sale to our customers. Create and maintain item IDs, routes, material structures, standard cost data files, estimating rates and factors used in preparing cost estimates for Sales.

  • Implements and maintains product data in applicable software (i.e., JDE and SPECS) to support business activities.
  • Develops required specifications and implementation procedures for changes and additions to our business activities as related to product data to support these changes.
  • Works with Information Services personnel and others to implement changes to product structures or business practices as required.
  • Tests new software or enhancements to SPECS and JDE to verify that the data and software meets the desired business requirements.
  • Be responsible for coordinating with other departments any business system changes related to that department(s) function and how it relates to our products.
  • Works with ADIP Project Management personnel, Production Planning and other departments in integrating the Bills of Materials with Manufacturing routes to represent desired manufacturing process.
  • Be responsible for maintenance of product descriptions.
  • Be responsible for providing knowledge and information regarding products to Production Planning, Manufacturing, Project Specialists, Project Coordinators and Purchasing.
  • Assists in setting up new items when requested by Sales and approved by ASWP Chief Engineer. Fills in for personnel on vacation, sick, etc.
  • Be responsible for AMERICAN Products Engineering Change Order System and executes any required changes in product data as a result of an engineering change.
  • Writes technical notes to document and train employees on products, process, or business details.
  • Maintains data integrity. Corrects and maintains accuracy of system data.
  • Locates, isolates, and analyzes detailed system problems associated with Product Engineering data and related activities to include but not be limited to; correction of planner codes, correcting items that have incorrect make/buy flags, inventory adjustments for duplicate items, and correction of problems at warehouses.
  • Works with Manufacturing to maintain current time studies, standard hours for operations, and update product routes in JDE.
  • Works with Cost Accounting, Sales, Marketing, Information Services and shop personnel in implementing changes to product routes and standards to compliment business practices as required. Checks Bill of Material with the product work centers for validity.
  • Works with Production Planning and other departments in integrating the product standards, routes, and Bills of Material to represent desired manufacturing process. Assists in coordinating with other departments manufacturing procedure changes relating to our products.
  • Provides cost of product line(s) to Sales and updates these costs as needed. Provides cost estimates for sales inquiries. Provides cost estimates on new products prior to items being entered in AMERICAN systems.
  • Locates, isolates, and analyzes detailed system problems associated with product structure and route data and related activities to include work centers, routes and standards, make/buy flags, and other JDE related problems.
  • Keeps work area clean and orderly. Knows safety rules that apply to the safety of others and to personal safety. Reports malfunction of equipment to proper authority. Performs other work as instructed by supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Must exhibit a minimum of two (2) years water works industry product knowledge or similar relevant product knowledge.
  2. Must exhibit a minimum of two (2) years of manufacturing process knowledge.
  3. Must exhibit computer skills to include good spreadsheet skills, working in a database environment, word processing, and the ability to use other purchased computer programs.
  4. Must exhibit an ability to learn.
  5. Must exhibit the ability to work with confidential information and maintain confidentiality.
  6. Must exhibit the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the job duties.
  7. Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  8. Must exhibit good command of grammar and spelling.
  9. Must exhibit the ability to document procedures and changes made to a process and write up detailed work orders for others to carry out in order to accomplish goals set by immediate supervisor.
  10. Must exhibit a record of punctuality and good attendance.
  11. Must exhibit the ability to work well with others and present and discuss ideas in a group environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Have an excellent knowledge of AMERICAN product line or similar product line.
  2. Have an excellent knowledge of AMERICAN manufacturing procedures or similar procedures.
  3. Have prior cost analysis experience in a manufacturing setting similar to that of AMERICAN.
  4. Have a minimum of one (1) year experience working with configuration software such as Optimus, ASI, JDE, Microsoft Dynamics AX or other similar business systems and have a good working knowledge of interactions between the systems.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Sitting is required to enter data into the P.C.
  • Standing is required while talking with personnel in the shop and offices, looking at blueprints, etc.
  • Walking in the plant to different production offices is required.
  • Climbing stairs to access different offices within the plant is required.
  • Stooping is required to access file cabinets, shelves, and to plug in electrical cords into outlets.
  • Overhead reach is essential to reach books, files, binders, etc.
  • Forward reach is required to enter data into the P.C., access files, access binders, and perform desk activities.
  • Bended reach is essential to access files, books, binders, etc.
  • Handling phone, stapler, tape measure, technical books and files is required.
  • Use of fingers is essential to enter data on the P.C.; phone usage; perform calculations on the calculator, etc.
  • Talking is required for communication with co-workers and supervision. Also, talking is essential when receiving and/or making phone calls regarding data to be entered.
  • Sight is required to enter data, utilize calculator, read production reports and other information.
  • Hearing is required for phone and person-to-person communication and for safety within the plant.
  • Lifting/carrying required for computer paper (25#), books (avg.5#), binders (#5), manuals (5#), and notebooks.
  • Push/pull required for file drawers with 5# to 10# force.
