CDTi is looking for a Product Engineer who will join our cross-functional team and contribute to our product development, including (but not limited to) heterogenous catalysts and climate technologies for emission abatement, carbon reduction and hydrogen production. The role is actively engaged in executing product planning, developing and improvement. Initial responsibilities include (1) supporting continuous product improvement for internal and external customers, (2) conducting new product planning, testing, characterization, and development. Responsibilities also include adhering to high quality standards by maintaining high level of documentation, complying with basic Good Laboratory Practices including maintaining workplace cleanliness, organization, and pro-actively contributing to a healthy and safe work environment.

We are looking for candidates willing to grow with the company, fulfilling various product development/engineering needs for both internal and external customers.

Essential:

  • Interface with internal or external customers to determine the appropriate product feature, formulation, and the process of making.
  • Perform and produce high quality characterization of the samples.
  • Develop testing capabilities as needed to fulfill customer requirements.
  • Organize and complete product development tasks.

Other:

· Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Best Practices:

  • Complete scheduled processing and characterization based on the direction of Technology director and engineers.
  • Communicate with QC and Operation engineers to understand and plan for timing of sample testing.
  • Perform processing and characterization following SOPs .
  • Review and update written SOPs as needed.
  • Maintain a clean workplace by cleaning up immediately after each operation.

Safety and Environmental:

  • Ensure that proper PPE is always worn when performing job duties.
  • Handle all laboratory chemicals with appropriate care.
  • Dispose of all waste and reclaim materials appropriately.
  • Follow the requirements described in the Chemical Hygiene Plan.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Computer — Computer proficiency is necessary. The control interfaces with our equipment are computer based and computer use will be necessary to produce and modify test files as well as to evaluate testing results. Most result reporting is handled via computer (usually Excel and Access)
  • Chemistry – The characteristics being processed with lab instruments are directly related to chemical interactions. An understanding of chemistry is critical for understanding the product formulations and results of the test equipment.
  • Mathematics — Knowledge of mathematics is critical for the design of catalyst formulation, test, and interpretation of testing results.
  • Reading Comprehension — Operational procedures and work instructions are in written (English) form. The candidate should be comfortable reading and updating these documents when needed.
  • Attention to Detail — Production of quality data with the test systems requires careful and accurate completion of multiple process steps and thorough analysis of the resultant outputs. Strong attention to detail is required to ensure that quality data is reported.
  • Flexibility — The Product Engineer has a scheduled weekday shift, but flexibility to occasionally support testing needs on the weekend or covering an alternate shift is important.

Primary equipment used in the occupation:

· Pipettes, Glass beakers and Crucibles

· Electronic Balances

· Lab Ovens and Tube Furnace

· Vacuum dryer

· Centrifugation and filtration equipment

· Ultrasonic bath

· Blending equipment

· Milling equipment

· Characterization equipment such as XRD, TGA, TPR/TPO, XRF and BET

Technology used in this occupation:

Education:

  • BS degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical or Material Engineering required.
  • 0-3 years relevant work experience preferred, but flexibility and willingness to learn about and operate custom test equipment is primary.
