Position Title: Product Engineer
Department: Product Management
SUMMARY:
The Product Engineer will support the development of new product as well as sustaining engineering activities for products in their designated segments. The engineer will support the concept, design and implementation of electriclal, mechanical parts, subassemblies, and final products. This role will also provide solutions to technical questions/challenges and assist cross functional teams in areas where engineering expertise is required.
This role requires the ability to operate in a highly dynamic environment, at a detailed tactical execution level, as well as on a strategic level.
- Collaborate with sales and product teams to include visits to OEM customers. Ensure Voice-of-Customer (VoC) is focus on continuous improvement of existing products and incorporated with idea generation of future products.
- Support or lead all stages of product design, development, and documentation (concept through manufacturing) for new and current products.
- Evaluate and test samples.
- Electrical experience.
- Designing and understanding workflow processes,
- Review designs which meet defined product requirements and that are optimized for producibility, reliability, and overall cost to the business.
- Supports all design related component styling, purchasing, and manufacturing issues with emphasis on quality, reliability, timely delivery, and cost.
- Conduct meetings with cross functional teams and participate in concept reviews, preliminary design reviews, phase completion reviews, manufacturing readiness reviews and engineering change processes.
- Translate commercial specifications into technical specifications. Support PPAP & preparation for SOP.
- Assist in owner, install, service manuals from technical point-of-view. Define service kits and spare parts listing in association with new product launches.
- Assist in engineering diagnosis that include root cause analysis, defining the problem with solution planning, testing, implementation, verification, and provide the necessary corrective actions.
- Assist with interface with suppliers, manufacturing facilities and various internal groups to resolve design and manufacturability issues of new and existing products.
- Support CSA certification process & RV Industry Association Standards.
- Review 3D Models and 2D Drawings in CREO while utilizing Windchill.
- Benchmark competitive products and materials.
- Performs other miscellaneous project related assignments.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar field from an ABET accredited university.
- 3+ years of progressive and practical engineering or relevant experience
- Strong working knowledge of CREO, CAD, 3D modeling, Windchill, Solidworks
- Knowledge in engineering best practices such as value engineering, design for manufacturability, FMEA, etc.
- Basic knowledge of electrical, power supply, metal crimping & welding and/or refrigeration manufacturing.
- Effective verbal/written communication skills with the ability to effectively present ideas/concepts to the cross functional teams
- Experience in buy and sell operating model and working with global suppliers preferred.
- Basic knowledge of plastic part design and manufacturing such injection molding, blow molding, etc. preferred.
- Experience with CAD.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
