About the position:
The Product Engineer is a vital role in our mission to design and develop cutting-edge products that improve the lives of our customers. Within our Commercial and Passenger Vehicle (CPV) group, the Product Engineer contributes to the creation of innovative solutions to support automotive/commercial vehicle and agricultural vehicle projects. This role is responsible for engineering tasks including testing and analysis for the various programs.
Main responsibilities:
- Responsible for the design and development of new and current product for CPV and AM applications.
- Leading a team of internal and external Engineering resources, designing innovative product, meeting project technical, cost and timing requirements. Supporting all other disciplines of the Project Team.
- Manage product Engineering activities following the guidelines outlined in the PDPs adopted by Dometic and the customer.
- Generate project specifications based on product performance requirements, customer requirements and standards, industry standards, compliance requirements for legacy product and lessons learned from similar product.
- Responsible for meeting DFM and production readiness requirements, outlined in Dometic's PDP.
- Drive Change Management Process managing the technical, commercial, and timing impact to product and project scope.
- Develop and execute a detailed Engineering / project plan.
- Create and maintain comprehensive Engineering documentation (STS, ICD, DFMEA, DVP&R, ...).
- Evaluate component and product costs to ensure project cost targets are met.
- Manage the relationship with Customer Engineering and with all project stakeholders (internal and external). Organize and lead project and design review meetings with customers and peers.
- Negotiate design and process validation plans with customers, work with internal resources to ensure proper execution of D/PVP.
- Organize and participate in DFMEA creation and maintain DFMEA through product life. Utilize DFMEA process to improve robustness of future product.
- Perform risk management, conduct risk assessments, and provide risk mitigation plans to Project Team and Management.
- Report project status and escalate problems to Management as needed. Develop and present recovery plan.
- Cooperate and communicate effectively with project team, provide technical assistance and support.
- Occasionally perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- BSME/BSEE or equivalent degree required.
- Automotive OEM/Tier X experience required.
- Solid track record of successful Project Management and Process Improvement skills; PMP Certification and/or deep APQP knowledge a plus.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and procedures in high volume assembly, injection molding, refrigeration and electronics is desirable.
- Proficiency in CAE / CAD (SolidWorks, Catia, NX, etc.) of components and assemblies (3D & 2D).
- Demonstrated experience with automotive OEM PDM systems, and product development and validation tools and processes.
- Demonstrated experience of industry standard Engineering tools and processes (GD&T, MFA, FEA, etc.).
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed, generally minimal.
