Produce Safety Inspector

Title: Produce Safety Inspector (Senior Consumer Protections Specialist)
Salary: $51,191.52 annually (includes full state benefit package). Employee will be provided a state vehicle and all equipment necessary for the job
Location: This position will be domiciled in Boone, Callaway, Cole, Maries, Morgan, Miller, Moniteau, or Osage counties. Adjacent counties will be considered. Applicants must reside in one of these counties or be willing to relocate.
What You'll Do:
- Perform inspections on farms subject to FDA regulations to ensure they are meeting the Federal guidelines for growing safe product.
- Provide clear written and oral reports that meet FDA requirements of farm inspections.
- Develop and maintain a system for tracking assigned farms to ensure the inspection scope and frequency standards are met.
- Provide technical assistance to farms so they can improve their Produce Safety processes.
- Complete training as required to perform inspections.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Five (5) or more years of professional or technical experience in agriculture or environmental public health
- Required knowledge and skills may be obtained through work experience or through the completion of a bachelor's degree program.
- Experience in vegetable or fruit production.
- Experience visiting working farms and communicating relevant information.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive, productive, respectful working relationships with clients and co-workers.
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal guidance in pursuit of established program goals and objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to grasp ideas and concepts to create tangible results in the pursuit of established program goals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills which include development and delivery of presentations to a variety of audiences.
- Proven sound judgment in representing an agency or organization to a wide variety of stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate effectively and to prepare complete and concise reports.
- Ability to discern between critical and routine items of concern with the goal of addressing priority concerns first.
- Ability to independently establish and complete daily work schedules.
- Ability to travel up to 80% of the time in the performance of assigned duties.
- Must possess a valid Missouri Driver's License
