Building Safety Inspector I

POSITION SUMMARY:The Building Safety Inspector I is responsible for enforcing municipal ordinances of the City of Branson relating to property maintenance, building, and sign and zoning codes; to enforce codes by issuing notice of violations or citations as appropriate. This work is technical in nature and is designed to ensure that contractors, businesses, and residents are complying with local ordinances. Tasks include on-site inspections and/or in-house research of records and follow-up inspections. The work includes complaints or concerns from citizens, city employees, and other departments and conducting interviews with various individuals. Building Safety Inspector I also exercises considerable independent judgment and discretion in the performance of duties. This position is supervised by the Building Safety Supervisor and reports indirectly to the Assistant Director and the Director of Planning and Development.

WORK HOURS: Monday through Friday, 8:00a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
WORK LOCATION: City of Branson, Missouri; City Hall. In and around the City of Branson, Missouri; This position requires work to be performed onsite.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: The starting hourly wage is $20.05per hour and will increase to $20.85 per hour after 6 months of successful probation. Please click on this link for compensation/benefits information.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING

• A High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
• One (1) to three (3) years of experience related to enforcement and/or application of property maintenance, building, sign, zoning, and codes is required.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING

• Advanced technical education is preferred.

MISCELLANEOUS REQUIREMENTS

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be highly engaged in the department's goals and able to work cooperatively with departmental leadership in achieving those goals.
• Must demonstrate excellent customer service to the department's internal or external customers.
• Obtain ICC Property Maintenance & Housing Inspector certification or equivalent approved certification within 12 months of hire date. Once obtained this certification must be maintained.
• Additional licenses or certifications may be required for this position.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's license and be insurable under the City of Branson's motor vehicle coverage when operating a vehicle as a part of the position.
• Must act safely and follow safety standards while at work.
• Must be able to pass a background investigation and drug and alcohol screenings.
