Position Summary
This is a part-time position (24 hours/week) that requires weekend and evening availability.
Central Co-op’s Produce department is at the heart of our desire to provide fresh, healthy food to all, and is the aesthetic centerpiece of our store! The Produce Clerk is responsible for ensuring our department shines through the preparation, stocking, and display of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as collaborating with all store departments to provide an outstanding customer experience for shoppers.
Position Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Produce Clerk is to create an exemplary shopping environment for customers through friendly, knowledgeable service and a well-stocked, beautiful department.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Receiving, trimming, cleaning, stocking, rotating, and facing produce, as well as attentively removing culls, per department procedure
- Delivering and modeling phenomenal customer service at all times
- Staying current with knowledge about available year-round and seasonal produce varieties
- Engaging with customers by answering questions, making recommendations, offering samples when possible, etc.
- Maintaining the cleanliness of display areas on the sales floor and backstock areas, including coolers
- Upholding company policies for safe food handling, cleanliness, and sanitation
- Assisting other departments as necessary
Qualifications
- A desire to provide and prioritize an outstanding customer experience
- Ability to accurately, efficiently and safely prepare Produce items for display
- Ability to follow directions precisely and prioritize work tasks independently
- A passion for fresh foods, and the ability to build and share a robust knowledge base about department offerings
- Proven ability to effectively listen and communicate with customers and co-workers
- Ideally, some prior experience in retail grocery, produce, or natural foods
- Flexibility in scheduling, and the capacity to work evenings and weekends
