Major Purpose:
The Category manager is responsible for leading procurement sourcing activities in specific categories related to spend related to the Corporate functions of Grainger (HR, Finance, Sales, Customer Service, etc.). He/She leads the development of category procurement strategy, goals and savings targets in line with company strategy, sourcing events, supply market analysis, and procurement best-practices for his/her assigned categories across travel, HR services, legal services, financial services and other professional services. He/She is responsible for the new supplier selection processes and developing/maintaining supplier relationships in his/her assigned categories. Supports internal collaboration, knowledge sharing, compliance with best practices and established category management process.
Major responsibilities and duties:
Develop and implement procurement strategies for managed categories consistent with overall procurement objectives
Work closely with the cross-functional business teams to set category long-term and mid-/ short-term objectives and pipeline of initiatives and agree on how value will be measured and delivered
Communicate category strategy, objectives and performance targets with management team and ensure that objectives are met
Drive cost reduction initiatives with suppliers within category or commodity area
Manage supplier relationships and execute supplier performance management techniques in accordance with standards and guidelines
Act as central point of contact and knowledge for regionally coordinated categories
Take ownership and manage specifications, vendor base and contracts for assigned categories
Prioritize and manage all strategic sourcing initiatives for managed categories; coordinate efforts with support functions and provide direction to strategic sourcing analyst
Lead the sourcing process including RFX, negotiations, and contracting to put in place selected vendors
Ensure quality of internal demand management for managed categories
Constantly monitor vendor market and identify opportunities resulting from new product offerings and/or market shifts (e.g., entry or exit of vendors, changes in pricing)
Monitor category performance and take corrective action when required
Develop market intelligence on supply base, own key vendor relationships based on assigned categories and monitor key strategies and vendors
Monitor performance of vendors against contract obligations and serve as a resource to resolve issues/problems
Engage the support of stakeholders using problem solving and proactive communication skills
Ensure clear communication and documentation of delivery requirements and expectations
Accurately forecast total cost benefit opportunities
Develop economic projections on key goods and services affecting the business
Coach and support the professional development of category team members
Work with procurement analysts to prioritize and conduct analysis
Use esourcing and coordinates with esourcing team for event execution

Requirements:
MA/MS/MBA or equivalent preferred
Substantial experience in category management or strategic sourcing and pricing and contract T&Cs negotiations; negotiation aptitude
3+ years experience in professional services, and corporate services categories
Strong project management skills

Demonstrated ability to effectively work with disparate teams
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong negotiation skills
Strong supplier relationship development and Industry experience preferred
Professional qualification / certification from related professional body, (ISM - CPM / CPSM, APICS) would be an added advantage
