Reports To: Manager, Materials Management & Procurement
The role of Material Management and Procurement (MMP) is to manage the material deliveries and purchasing, within established project budget, scope and schedule. A Material Manager acts as primary interface between the Konecranes project team and material suppliers (internal and external) for project related materials. Material Managers have the responsibility of taking inputs from Project Management (Schedule and budget) as well as engineering (technical specifications and material requirements / BOM’s) and converting the requisitions into tangible Purchase Orders. They also negotiate with suppliers and vendors as needed and ensure the correct materials are delivered to the needed locations as planned by the Project. The Material Manager operates as a critical junction on a project team to ensure a successful on-time and on-budget project. Material Manager function is an integral part of the project team and has a continuous responsibility to communicate project Material status to management. Our ability to execute projects is heavily influenced by material availability. Our sustainability and competitiveness strongly rely on the ability to track costs and keep or fall below the budgets. It is critical open dialog occurs between Material Management, Engineering, Project Management and Production to solve any issues and provide feedback.
The Material Manager role is similar to a Project Engineer with the added responsibilities of sourcing and procurement. The position is a natural stepping stone into Project Management.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Finalize and Maintain Project Bill of Material to support project delivery schedule and scope.
- On-time and on-budget Project specific purchasing.
- Compare purchases to budgets and communicate deviations with the Project as needed.
- Problem solve delivery or cost issues with suppliers.
- Ensure project materials are extended and maintained and the project’s manufacturing Bill of Materials are up-to-date in Teamcenter and SAP systems.
- Provide management with Key Information as requested on price developments and feedback from the market/suppliers.
- Participate in Supplier on-boarding and visits as needed.
- Sole point of contact between Konecranes and the suppliers / vendors for project related purchases.
- Vendor Non-conformance management.
Education: Post-secondary degree or diploma from a college
Experience:
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings, Bills of Materials (BOM’s) and commercial contracts.
- Ability to understand delivery scopes and logistics concepts is required.
- Project Engineer, Project Coordinator or similar experience
- Commercial and Purchasing experience can be considered if technical ability can be demonstrated.
Other Requirements:
- Must demonstrate Technical Aptitude.
- Good general organizational and management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage and prioritize own use of time.
- Exceptional English communication skills are required. Must demonstrate good “people” skills.
- General PC skills, MS Windows, MS Outlook, MS Excel Required. SAP/ERP system experience a large plus
