About the job:
Kent is looking for a Process Safety Engineer to be based in the West Houston, TX office.
You will interact with other disciplines and groups, corporate technical networks and peers, and vendors/suppliers as needed to successfully implement and startup new equipment installations and revamps.
Your responsibilities:
- Provide a lead role in the technical development and review of discipline-specific deliverables, including:
- Develop Technical Safety Plans based on requirements;
- Perform a lead role in hazard analysis and safety workshop activities;
- Resolve identified LOPA gaps;
- Review engineering deliverables and ensure technical safety matters are addressed;
- Engineering involvement to ensure the design is suitable for safe operation.
- Lead and perform investigative studies and engineering scopes.
- Ensure that customer requirements and expectations have been accurately identified and company is meeting or exceeding customer expectations with regards to Technical Safety, Process Safety and Functional Safety.
- Uphold professional ethics and standards of conduct.
- Work involves directing research and solving unprecedented technical problems of considerable scope and complexity, the solution of which may have a far-reaching impact on extensive technical activities of the firm.
- Strong persuasive ability, technical writing and communications skills are required at this level, proven through such technical presentations, technical papers and/or participation in technical committees that will demonstrate an advanced state-of-the-art technical expertise.
Your Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent required.
- Minimum 10 years of Process Safety experience with Oil & Gas industry experience required.
- Professional certification/registration is preferred.
- Trained and experienced HAZOP and LOPA Facilitator.
- CFSE (Certified Functional Safety Expert – Exida Certification) preferred, TUV Functional Safety Certification preferred.
- CCPS Certified Process Safety Professional Certification preferred.
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification preferred.
- Familiarity with Responsible Care®, OSHA 1910.10 PSM Standards.
- Strong knowledge and experience in implementing IEC 61511/61508 and ISA 84 Safety Life Cycle.
- Knowledge of and experience in Process Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment methodologies.
- Skilled in the implementation of OSHA PSM and CCPS Risk Based Process Safety Management systems.
- Proficient in the use of Consequence modelling tools/software (PHAST, Canary), Sil Verification tools (Exsilentia, SIL Solver), Fault Tree Analysis (Isograph FTA) and HAZOP/LOPA documentation software (PHAPro, Leader, PHA Works).
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with multi-disciplined team and managers.
- Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal/rapport building skills necessary to work effectively as a team member, and to plan/coordinate processes for results.
