Job description

We have an exciting new opportunity for a self-driven professional with experience in Process Improvement and change management to join us as our new Process Improvement Manager in our Planning and Community Development department at the City of Redmond.

Therefore, to continually improve our abilities to serve the community, under the direction of the Deputy Directors, our new Process Improvement Manager will work with stakeholders in the Planning department to identify areas of improvement, develop solutions, and implement changes to streamline processes and increase efficiency. This means leading Process Improvement projects in the planning department from start to finish by analyzing operational and management procedures and policies to advise management regarding efficiencies and potential impacts of changes.

This role would be ideal for someone who is analytical, detail-oriented, and passionate about improving processes to increase efficiency and productivity. The job would suit someone who enjoys working with data and metrics and is skilled or familiar with Process Improvement methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma.

The ideal candidate would also be a strong communicator with excellent leadership skills. They would be comfortable working with people at all levels of the organization, from management to front-line staff, and be able to motivate and inspire teams to achieve their goals.

Additionally, the Process Improvement Manager would need to be adaptable and flexible, able to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with changing priorities and requirements. They would also need to be a decisive decision maker, able to make well-informed decisions quickly and confidently, while also being accountable for the outcomes.

Overall, the Process Improvement Manager position would be an excellent fit for someone who is driven, results-oriented, and committed to making a positive impact on the organization through Process Improvement and innovation.


If selected for this position, here are a few other key functions you will perform:
  • Lead Process Improvement projects in the Planning department from start to finish
  • Conduct process assessments to identify areas of improvement
  • Develop and implement Process Improvement plans to streamline operations and increase efficiency
  • Monitor and analyze process performance metrics to identify areas for further improvement
  • Provide training and support to staff on Process Improvement methodologies and tools
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in the Planning department to implement changes and ensure successful adoption of new processes
  • Maintain documentation of Process Improvements and provide regular progress reports to management

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of five of experience performing complex research, policy development, and financial analysis,
  • Or equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

Licenses and certificates:

  • Valid Washington State driver's license and a driving record that meets City standards may be required.

Though not requirements, strong candidates will have some of the following experience or are able to describe comparable experience:
  • Working knowledge and understanding of municipal planning department functions
  • Additional certification in Process Improvement such as Six Sigma or Project Management Professional (PMP)
