The Opportunity:
Avantor is looking for a dedicated Process Engineering Manager - Chemical Manufacturing to optimize our NuSIl team, delivering results against some of the most complex business and technology initiatives.
This role will be a direct hire, full-time position based out of our Bakersfield, CA facility. You will have the opportunity to be a hands-on partner with our operating equipment while focusing on process improvements and challenging technical tasks. The team
Avantor's Biomaterials and Operations Production team is part of our NuSil Technology business unit. As part of the Site Leadership Team, you will be responsible for long term improvements of chemical processes leading the Process Improvement Team.
What we're looking for
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in chemical, industrial or mechanical engineering; MS or advanced education in chemical, industrial or mechanical engineering
  • Experience: 3-5 years' experience as a lead or supervisor of a team of Process Engineers for chemical processes preferred
  • Must possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills, be detail oriented, and flexible to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Applied engineering experience in a GMP Chemical Manufacturing environment
  • Familiar with purified water systems, blending/drying process technologies, evaporation purification systems and aseptic processing systems a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, CAD and/or Solid Works

How you will thrive and create an impact
The Process Engineering Manager - Chemical Manufacturing will develop and implement improvements to manufacturing processes and equipment alternatives, including determining the tooling requirements and sequence of operations necessary for the production of parts. Responsible for operational excellence via efficient process design. Ensure continuous improvement in process, cost, quality, and production. Manage all engineering projects and resolves engineering problems. Provide input to strategic decisions that affect manufacturing technologies. Resolve escalated issues arising from operations. Manage a team within a discipline or department, typically comprised of career/intermediate professionals or Supervisors.
  • Manage a team of chemical process engineers to make long-term improvements to silicone polymer processes. Develop and improve manufacturing procedures. Help to manage change to processes. Lead teams to troubleshoot non-conforming batches and implement lasting improvements.
  • Make recommendations for capital improvements. Have experience with process safety management (PSM) and be able to develop and improve process safety information. Develop training materials that can be implemented by manufacturing. Collaborate with other sites on improved solutions.
  • Motivate team, set goals, develop team, and lead team to high performance. Manage new manufacturing processes that are introduced from R&D to manufacturing teams. Support site goals of schedule adherence, first-time pass rate, and inventory reduction.

Pay Transparency:
The expected pre-tax pay for this position is
$97,400.00 - $162,300.00
Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
