We are seeking a motivated and growth-oriented Process Engineer to join our Process Development team. This is a lab-based position, and the individual will assist in the scale-up of our cell-based manufacturing process to produce non-viral drug delivery vehicles. The candidate will design and execute experiments to optimize the bioreactor operation parameters leading to comparable product quality as the early versions of the process. The individual will communicate experimental findings on a regular basis across a matrixed team of scientists and engineers.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist in the evaluation of various bioreactor modalities to determine a lead bioreactor-type for particle production
- Develop and execute a protocol for scale-up of particle production from a shake flask to 50L scale
- Participate in the planning, execution, and data analysis of statistical design of experiments for early Process Development activities in non-bioreactor modalities.
- Work closely with the team to identify a feed and harvest strategy for maximizing product titer and minimizing impurities
- Identify key process parameters for bioreactor operation that could affect product quality and work with the upstream team to mitigate them
- Assist in technology transfer across different groups within the company
Skills and Qualifications
- Degree in chemistry, biology, engineering, or a related field; Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with 3-6 years of relevant industry experience
- Hands-on experience with single-use stir-tank bioreactors (SUB), and/or WAVE up to 50L scale
- Hands-on experience with aseptic sampling, metabolite analysis, pH and DO2 measurements
- Experience with viral or non-viral delivery platforms and/or gene therapy is desirable but not required
- Experience working with CDMOs and cGMP guidelines is desirable but not required
- Strong problem-solving, organization, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to a fast-paced environment
