Process Development Scientist

Rise Therapeutics is recruiting an experienced full-time Process Development Scientist with a background in bacterial fermentation to work in our Rockville, Maryland laboratory. This position offers a unique opportunity for entrepreneurial minded scientist to advance skills and experience necessary for a successful career in the biotechnology industry. The Process Development Scientist will support product development strategies to create new and innovative synthetic biology-based cellular medicines. The position will focus on process scale up development and GMP manufacturing.

Required Qualifications

· PhD degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, microbiology, or other life sciences with 1-2 years of post-PhD experience

· Background in bacterial fermentation or cell culture with experience operating small to medium scale bioreactors (1-100L) and microbial laboratory techniques

· Familiarity with good manufacturing practices (GMP) is preferred but not essential

· Sound fundamental understanding of bacterial biology required

· Strong writing and presentation skills

· Ability to contribute at a high level in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment

· Strong sense of responsibility for deadlines and data accuracy

· Rigor and attention to detail in all aspects of science

· Comfort with collaboration in a team-based environment

Duties and Responsibilities

· Design experiments and execute laboratory studies, evaluate media and fermentation conditions for new strains, manage and execute production runs, and participate in scale-up operations

· Utilize familiarity with control loops, monitoring/maintaining DO, pH, online metabolite monitoring, and other parameters for bacterial fermentation to carry out Process Development

· Lead projects and guide junior engineers in developing, optimizing, advancing, and scaling fermentation processes

· Lead projects on bacterial downstream processing, including freeze-drying, spray-drying and related techniques

· Play a key role in technology transfer of manufacturing processes

· Set and execute strategic direction for Process Development and scale-up

· Develop subject matter expertise in microbial manufacturing and serve as a resource to members of other teams and collaborating companies

· Prepare IND regulatory documentation

· Present scientific data at national and international conferences
