Job description

The primary responsibility of the Process Controls Engineer (PCE) is developing, managing, and maintaining the process control systems at all Idahoan Foods Production Facilities. The PCE will create company standards for process control systems and related equipment throughout the company. The PCE will work with the corporate engineering project managers to install control systems for new installations and will work with the plant management teams to troubleshoot and maintain existing control systems. The PCE will work in concert with corporate IT professionals to maintain control system standards set by the company.Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Monitoring process network switches
  • Develop and maintain PLC, Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming standards for use at all Idahoan processing plants.
  • Install hardware into our facilities, includes following our structured cabling and documentation standards. Maintain process network architecture documentation.
  • Maintaining software licensing and support contracts for Process Controls software.
  • Implementing and utilization of application software (Rockwell Factory Talk products)
    • FT Historian
    • FT Vantage point
    • FT Asset Center
    • FT View SE
    • Thin Manager
  • Data base management: SQL server
    • FT Historian
  • Ensure that all plants remain synchronized with control system software updates and patches.
  • Report development for plant, corporate, and engineering utilizing historical process data.
  • Develop HMI graphical object and screen standards for use at all processing facilities.
  • Process control project support.
  • Implement and maintain disaster recovery solutions for process control equipment.
  • PLC hardware/software maintenance as necessary.
  • On-call for process network issues, ability to troubleshoot network issues.
  • Perform hardware and software inventory, maintain licensing standards.
  • Communication with customers as required: keeping them informed of incident progress, notifying them of impending changes or maintenance windows and outages.
  • Perform routine security administration. Maintain and develop our monitoring systems, tools, and procedures.
  • Take on some project work as assigned.
  • Direct, or participate in, system installations, equipment start-ups, commissioning, operation, and electrical maintenance.
  • Maintains and program the SCADA system and the control systems for optimal plant performance.
  • Assists the plant with process computer/electronics problems.
  • Develop equipment obsolescence planning.
  • Follows and enforces all GMP, safety, and plant rules.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Required Skills

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (B.S.) from four-year college or university. Master’s degree is highly desirable, but not required.  Five years or more of experience with PLC programming in food manufacturing using networked PLC’s is preferred.

Language Skills: Ability to read, comprehend, and compose instructions, correspondence, and memos. Exhibits effective speaking and written communication skills.  Ability to conduct professional and compelling presentations and respond to questions from groups of equipment operators, managers, and senior executives within the Company. Effectively organizes and facilitates meetings.

Reasoning Ability: Possesses strong analytical, quantitative, communication, problem solving, and technical skills. Has the ability to creatively apply experience, common sense, and a strategic and economical business perspective to a variety of situations, processes, and people. Demonstrates the self-confidence and maturity to make decisions and solve problems with minimal direction. Organized and able to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.

Interpersonal Skills: Team player, flexible and accepts changing assignments and accountabilities.


Work Environment

The work environment is a traditional office with approximately 10-15% travel involved. Individual must be capable of carrying up to 50 lbs. while traveling. Must be flexible to occasionally work overtime during the week, weekends, and holidays.
