Probation/Parole Officer/Senior/Career - Apss Alternative Supervision

Hennepin County is hiring one or more Probation/Parole Officers (PO) for the Adult Probation Supervision Services division of the Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR). These positions are open to different levels of experience/qualifications. Candidates could also be hired into the PO, Senior, or Career level depending on related experience of the candidate. The Probation/Parole positions are in the Intimate Partner Violence Unit which supervises a specialized caseload for clients convicted of domestic related offenses where the victim is a current or former intimate partner. The officers will have a client and victim centered approach as they work to promote client change, victim safety and public safety through a combination of assessments, individualized case planning, and supervision strategies matched to a client's need and risk.

Salary based upon qualifications:

Candidates in the PO/Senior/Career Job Classification are encouraged to apply to be considered for a promotion or lateral transfer.
These are hybrid positions and will be performed both on-site in the community and remote as job duties require. The location for these positions will be based on the assignment either at the Government Center at 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55415, the South Side Hub at 2215 East Lake Street, Suite 470, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55407, or Brookdale Division II at 6125 Shingle Creek Parkway, Brooklyn Center, MN 55430. Work hours are generally Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.
New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

In these positions, you will:

• Assess client risk and needs and provide guidance, counseling, and monitoring as appropriate.
• Supervise clients in accordance with supervision standards and case plans.
• Prepare court reports, court orders and attend court hearings.
• Interact with victims, answer questions, and provide advocacy resources.
• Provide and use resources related to chemical use, abusive behaviors, mental health treatment and monitoring; cognitive behavioral interventions; and work in collaboration with other resources to address specific needs and risk of an offender.
• Maintain case files, records, and correspondence.
• Conduct field and home visits.
  • Individuals hired at the PO level must demonstrate an ability to supervise a caseload with the least complex cases within the unit and build proficiency and competency with essential functions of the position through formal and informal training, and perform the duties listed above.
  • Individuals hired at the Senior PO level must operate with limited oversight and demonstrate an ability to actively case manage more complex cases, independently developing/adjusting supervision and/or case plans and defending decisions independently in Court, and perform the duties listed above.
  • Individuals hired at the Career PO level must demonstrate an ability to operate independently with the most complex cases within the unit, are proficient with correctional Evidence Based Practices, and may stand in for a Corrections Unit Supervisor (CUS) to coach Senior- and PO-level peers on their work assignments requiring higher level functions.

Need to have:

• For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, one of the following:
  • Associate degree in any field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
  • Bachelor's degree in non-related field and two or more years of relevant full-time equivalent approved, related paid or volunteer experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the below areas and one or more years of full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
  • Master's degree or higher in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field; including the completion of a supervised clinical field work training/internship (if required by degree program).
• Note: The Evidence Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.
• For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, Senior, one of the following:
  • Associate degree in any field and six or more years full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
  • Bachelor's degree in non-related field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the below areas and three or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
