ANNUAL SALARY RANGE:   $47,571.00 - 71,357.00 (Salaries are paid biweekly)
ANNUAL ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE:   $52,000.00 - 65,000.00 (Salaries are paid biweekly)

Job Summary

The Municipal Court of the City of Fort Collins is hiring a Probation Officer (Drug Court) to assist in the development of a new Drug Court program. This program will be, what is believed to be,the first misdemeanor Drug Court within the State of Colorado and is intendedto provide programming opportunities for substance-involved individuals
The Probation Officer (Drug Court) will supervise participants placed in the Drug Court program by the Fort Collins Municipal Court: prepare weekly court reports, make court recommendations, and attend court weekly to provide testimony on participants' progress.  Minimum contact standards are required to monitor and verify participant compliance with court orders, treatment, substance abuse testing, and pro-social behavior within the community.  The position works closely with participants and providers to address identified areas of risk/need in an effort to reduce recidivism and promote recovery, adhering to the key components and best practices of the Drug Court model.  
This is a great opportunity for current or former professionals (Probation Officers, social workers, case workers, substance abuse treatment providers, case management specialists) who have experience dealing with individuals who are experiencing arrest or citation for drug or alcohol-related offenses. The ideal candidate has at least five (5) years of relevant experience with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in the criminal justice system, a probation department, or correctional/treatment setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A top candidate has excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills, the ability to support and encourage an effective and innovative team environment, experience working with the criminally involved, substance-involved defendants/clients, and/or a strong background in substance abuse, addiction, mental health, and appropriate services/treatment modalities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Provide caseload supervision for offenders assigned to probation
  • Monitor progress and compliance with the Court's order including:
    • Notifying the prosecutors when a defendant is in violation of conditions
    • Appearing and testifying in Court for reviews and other hearings
  • Working with the prosecutors on motions to terminate probation early or changing conditions
  • Conduct pre-sentence investigation and reports
  • Make sentencing recommendations to the Court or prosecution
  • Explore alternative options for sentencing which may include assessments of individuals and behavior through interviews and investigation to determine appropriate services or consequences for non-compliance
  • Maintain positive working relationships with community agencies and awareness of available community resources
  • Prepare, maintain, and insure the integrity of probation records
  • Develop new processes and procedures as new laws and sentencing requirements are enacted

Required Education

Minimum/PreferredEducation LevelMinimum High School Diploma or GED and or functionally related licenses or certificates Preferred Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (preferably in Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or related field)

Experience Requirements

  • 5+ years experience with a minimum of two years of experience in the criminal justice system, probation department, or correctional/treatment setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
