Job description

At Dougherty’s Pharmacy we are passionate about customer service! We are looking for an experienced PRN Pharmacist (Saturday Shifts) to join our team of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians in managing the daily activities at our community pharmacy located in Dallas, TX. Expectations include ensuring optimal customer service, and working with technicians to ensure success at this well-respected pharmacy. Summary: Reviews and dispenses prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for the pharmacy. Reviews and dispenses prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care. Has responsibility for overall store knowledge and provides support to all customers in the store. Responsible for maintaining highly respected customer service per company standard and generating sales and profits for the pharmacy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Reviews prescriptions issued by physician, or other authorized prescriber, to ensure accuracy and determine the therapeutic correct dosage.
  • Answers questions and provides patient counseling on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals.
  • Drives sales and profits of the business.
  • Analyzes the needs of patients/customers in regards to new products and/or services and implements same for increased sales, and to meet and exceed patient/customer expectations.
  • Researches information for new products as requested.
  • Advises physicians on the inherent dangers of drugs and their eventual side effects as well as helping them in the prescription of correct doses.
  • Works in the preparation, labeling and delivery of various medications or supplies according to prescriptions -- and making sure that all dispensed drugs are recorded and delivered in accordance with local, state and federal laws or regulations.
  • Evaluates and interprets orders and dispenses medications according to written orders/prescriptions issued by an authorized prescriber.
  • Responsible for counseling patients to identify, prevent, assess, and resolve medication-related problems to ensure a safe and optimal patient outcome; and promote, through criteria based protocols, clinically rational drug therapy and sound pharmaceutical care.
  • Knowledgeable on rules and regulations regarding sterile and non-sterile compounding products.
  • Responsible for the proper disposal and destruction of drugs.
  • Assist in managing daily workflow of pharmacy technicians, pharmacy clerks and other staff.
  • Provides coaching and progressive discipline to staff, when appropriate, to address performance/behavior issues.
  • Evaluates drug orders for appropriateness with regard to patients' conditions.
  • Confers and consults with and provides information and guidance to various medical, nursing, and other health care professionals concerning drugs and their appropriate use to promote safe and effective drug therapy including but not limited to: dosage schedules, dosage adjustments, therapeutic alternatives, possible adverse drug reactions, drug/drug interactions, drug/food interactions, allergy cross sensitivity, and therapeutic duplication.
  • Maintains regular, reliable attendance.
  • Performs other work related duties as assigned.

  • Education/Experience:

  • At least three (5) years of related retail pharmacy experience is required.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College/University, School of Pharmacy.
  • Experience with Computer-Rx software is preferred.
  • Immunization certification is required.
  • RPH or PharmD designation is required.
  • Current, unencumbered Texas state license to practice as a registered pharmacist is required.
  • Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents. This position requires the ability to take customers’ requests verbally and written. They must be able to speak effectively with customers and employees of organization. Utilizes appropriate phone etiquette.

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures, measurements and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume or as necessary to perform the job responsibilities for this position.

Reasoning Ability:

Exhibits critical thinking abilities and applies them for continuous improvement of services and the business. Uses knowledge, experience and other resources to make logical decisions and solve problems. Analyzes work processes and makes suggestions for improvements. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of retail pharmacy software, Internet & e-mail, Outlook, and word processing software. The employee will be able to operate and use all equipment necessary to run the pharmacy.
