Job description

Under direction of the IT Supervisor II, within the Information Security & Privacy Office (ISPO) of the Department of Social Services (CDSS), the Information Technology Specialist I (ITS I) is the department's Privacy Program Lead. The position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and updating all privacy policies, standards, and guidelines, as well as training materials to enhance the department's ability to protect its data. This includes keeping up to date with information security and privacy current events, news, and knowledge sources to identify new risks, regulations, and trends. The ITS I will provide guidance to security liaisons and key stakeholders across CDSS on the implementation of policy and standards controls and development of necessary procedures.
Additionally, the ITS I will take the lead on developing and maturing the organization's privacy assessment process (PTA/PIA), which includes enhancing automation tools and educating stakeholders. Incumbent will also administer role-based training, develop workgroups, and provide metrics reporting. Also, this position is eligible for remote work.
These duties will keep in line with the mission of the CDSS ISPO, which is to foster a culture of security and privacy that safeguards the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of State data to enable the effective delivery of social services to all Californians.

Working Conditions
This work location is very convenient! The CDSS is located two blocks from the light rail and public transportation: within walking distance to the State Capitol, parks, restaurants, farmer's markets and the Golden 1 Arena. Our building has easy access to I-5, Highway 50, and Highway 80.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
We are looking for candidates with the following knowledge, skills and/or experience within an Information Security program:
• Experience conducting and/or reviewing risk assessments
• Experience in developing/writing policy guidelines, procedures, standards, and controls
• Working knowledge and understanding of information security risks management
• Working experience of emerging security risks
• Experience developing reporting and security metrics
• Working experience of security, policy compliance, and governance frameworks including: State Administrative Manual (SAM), NIST-800 series, etc.
• Experience conducting compliance reviews for adherence to security policies and standards
• CISA and/or CISSP certifications will be a plus
