We have an exciting opportunity to join our Office of Compliance as a Manager of Privacy. The Privacy Manager is a lead member in City of Hope’s system privacy program. Responsible for operating the City of Hope enterprise-wide Privacy Program under the direction of the Vice President, Chief Privacy Officer. Guides department staff in day-to-day operations. Oversees and manages auditing, monitoring and investigation processes and related activities. Participates in the development and deployment of new functions to expand Program activities in order to achieve and maintain an effective Privacy Program throughout the City of Hope system.

The Privacy Manager is responsible for working collaboratively with the System Chief Privacy Officer to develop and maintain the system privacy compliance program with an emphasis on privacy, leading the conduction of investigations relating to patient privacy and information security, including processes for monitoring and improvement, supporting ongoing auditing and monitoring activities related to patient privacy and information security matters, and collaborating and consulting with cross-functional groups to develop materials related to privacy operations.

This position is also responsible for response to, and investigation of any matters brought forward by regulatory authorities relating to patient privacy and information security, reviewing applicable state privacy protection requirements and addressing the state privacy protection requirements as appropriate with employees, clients, subsidiaries and affiliate entities.

Provides supervision and oversight of the work of the Compliance department staff. This includes but is not limited to supervision of projects, work assignments and daily work in support of the privacy program.

Provide guidance to system and local departments and assist with responses to patient inquiries on privacy related matters

Develop and maintain Ethics and Compliance Program reporting materials and presentations for the Executive Compliance Committee; assist in preparing materials for board committee reporting.

Develop and oversee the dissemination of education and training that focuses on the elements of the Program so that physicians, employees, and volunteers are aware of the policies and pertinent federal and state laws and regulations.

Maintain current working knowledge of Federal and State regulations and requirements as they affect the system, monitor healthcare regulatory environment, and advise on new and/or revised laws and regulations.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Manage the administration of the System wide Privacy Program under the direction of the Vice President, Chief Privacy Officer.
  • Drive the periodic review and revision of the Program with changes in the needs of the organization, as well as updates in the regulatory environment.
  • Responsible for hiring Privacy Program staff, and outside consultants as necessary, and managing staff and consultants, when required, in the implementation of the Program.
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of programs/tools to promote efficiency with tracking, maintaining, and reporting Program activities and processes.
  • Lead the development of campaigns to heighten awareness of the Privacy Program function across the system, as well as to disseminate information and collect employee feedback.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with a bachelor’s degree healthcare administration law, medicine, nursing, accounting, or other applicable field; experience may substitute for minimum education requirements. Certification by the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA) preferred
  • 5-7 years of experience in health care privacy experience.
  • 1 year of experience in a leadership capacity.
