LOCATION: Hybrid on-site at one of our hub locations in Arlington, VA / Alpharetta, GA / Houston, TX or San Francisco, CA

As a subject matter expert, the successful candidate will play a key role in the investigation, identification, and resolution of inverter-related issues within design, specification, installation, commissioning, handover, service, warranty, and sustaining operations phases. The ideal candidate will possess a combination of customer and supplier facing roles, hands-on experience, technical expertise, and a deep understanding of grid codes and industry standards.

As a Principal Inverter Engineer at Fluence, you will:
Assist in the investigation and identification of inverter failures by gathering and reviewing field data, conducting insightful discussions with vendors, and providing comprehensive analysis.
Provide expert support to personnel during commissioning and service activities, determining containment actions and resolutions for field failures.
Demonstrate hands-on experience in testing inverters in a lab or factory setting and possess familiarity with operating inverters using external control software.
Exhibit knowledge of US grid codes such as NERC PRC-24, IEEE 2800, CAISO, and ERCOT grid requirements.
Possess expertise in voltage and frequency ride-through, active grid support, and familiarity with battery energy storage systems, including understanding arc flash hazard and short circuit currents from battery systems.
Showcase proficiency in dynamic modeling and experience with modeling platforms such as PSSE, PSCAD, PSLF, etc., particularly for inverter models.

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the power electronics/inverters field, with a focus on utility-scale inverters.
    • Proven track record of successful projects involving the testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of power electronic/inverter systems.
    • Strong understanding of grid codes, standards, and regulations related to power electronics and utility-scale inverters.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
    • Effective communication skills, including the ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Ability to collaborate and work cross-functionally with engineering teams, vendors, and project stakeholders.
    • Leadership experience across all aspects of the product lifecycle.
    • Experience driving complex emergent issues to their resolution.
    • Ability to connect engineering requirements to business requirements.
    • Experience communicating to executive leaders.
    • Ability to work in a manner consistent with the Fluence values of Leading, Agile, Responsible, and Fun.
    • Proven success on challenging projects where you made key contributions while demonstrating ownership, creativity, and initiative.
    • Ability to manage a portfolio of time-sensitive deliverables and deliver them on budget, and to the satisfaction of the relevant stakeholder.
    • Desire to learn new skills, business applications and equipment platforms.
    • Effective in a collaborative yet informally structured work environment. Desire to take responsibility and initiative.
