Position Overview

The Novelis Global Enterprise Architecture team is seeking a Principal Enterprise Architect - North and South Americas, who will - as an architecture expert - play an integral role in contributing to the evolution of the Enterprise Architecture practice and IT project execution, providing technical thought leadership, authoring reference design patterns, and delivering architecture work products.

 

Reporting to the Chief Enterprise Architect, this role will shape IT technology strategy over major business dimensions, having assigned scope of one or several regions, functional domains, and technology stacks.

 

The Principal EA's initial focus will be on Novelis North America (NNA) and South America (NSA) regions; holding global responsibility as the Technical Architecture Review Board chair; leading and improving the corresponding global processes, tools, and templates! As the maturity of EA practice in those regions improves, you may be positioned to expand your influence and responsibility over other areas.

 

Within the North American scope, the Principal EA will act as a single point of contact for the architecture deliverables of the largest and most critical program to build and operationalize a greenfield $2.5 Bn manufacturing facility!

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities:

 

Leveraging technical expertise and interpersonal skills, drive discussions and influence global and regional decisions on new technology introductions, application rationalization, and portfolio health. Leading the technology strategy and roadmap of the solutions ecosystem in the assigned scope, you'll ensure that solutions meet evolving business requirements while optimizing footprint, cost, obsolescence, and security factors.

  • Establish trust and effective partnerships with a diverse group of stakeholders across global and regional IT teams and business partners, as well as the IT Business Relationship Managers.
  • Manage assigned architects directly and influence other experts in the matrixed environment.
  • Engage with the domain BRMs and key partners to understand business strategy, create, and manage the mapping of global and regional solutions to business capabilities, and define a comprehensive capabilities roadmap that informs technology strategy.
  • Establish a clear architectural vision and strategy to support the development of business capabilities, including application rationalization.
  • Provide crucial guidance to application owners and portfolio managers on understanding application and portfolio health metrics, influencing prioritization efforts to address concerns such as obsolescence, security, and business continuity.
  • Serve as the leading architecture expert, offering guidance on the resourcing and implementation of global and regional solutions that actively contribute hands-on to the most ambitious architecture products.
  • Ensure the delivery of solutions adheres to architecture best practices, principles, and standards, including documentation.
  • Chair the Technical Architecture Review Board, taking full ownership of the global process and decision-making for the introduction of new technologies and design reviews, ensuring alignment with strategic business objectives.
  • Advocate for organizational reuse of technologies, solutions, and patterns, challenging process differences, and ensuring a seamless integration of regional needs into global solution development roadmaps.
  • Champion architects and domain experts to contribute to the architecture knowledge base, actively leading the evolution and adoption of architecture best practices, principles, and reference patterns.
  • Maintain a thought leadership view of existing solutions and emerging technologies, providing expert advice to team members on both immediate and long-term strategic influences.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • University degree in Computer Science, IT, Business, or related field.
  • 12+ years of progressive IT architecture experience, demonstrating mastery in business, data, application, and technology disciplines.
  • In-depth practical understanding of an industrial company IT ecosystem from manufacturing and supply chain to EHS and finance functional solutions, key interdependencies, and data flows.
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate and communicate a clear business unit-level technology strategy in alignment with overarching business objectives, articulating potential alternatives, costs, benefits, and tradeoffs.
  • Proven interpersonal skills to influence a diverse range of technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executive leadership.
  • Track record of contributing to the development and implementation of high-impact organizational initiatives, translating architectural decisions into tangible business outcomes.
  • Expertise in leading evaluation and onboarding of new technologies, including definition and execution of POCs and MVPs.
  • Hands-on experience in designing solutions and creating architecture work products, leveraging architecture best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Practical proficiency with SAFE and TOGAF frameworks, complemented by an understanding of WCM, Lean, and/or Six Sigma business methodologies.
  • Experience working in a global context, understanding, and addressing the unique challenges and opportunities that arise in a multinational business environment.
  • Previous involvement in IT regional leadership roles, showcasing a broad perspective and comprehensive understanding of diverse IT landscapes.
  • Recognition as an inspiring leader in the Enterprise Architecture domain, evidenced by publications, conference presentations, or active participation in industry forums and communities.
  • Experience with crafting or overseeing solution architecture within Microsoft Azure and on-prem hybrid cloud environments.
  • Demonstrated execution of projects using both Agile and Waterfall IT methodologies.

It is co-located with Novelis' North America regional office which employs approximately 225 people.
