We are seeking a Principal Engineering Fellow to serve within the Engineering Technology organization as the Sensors Portfolio Technical Director (TD) in Tewksbury, MA.


Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • You will collaborate with Chief Technologists, Technology Directors, and other subject matter experts (SMEs) to support development of high ROI technology roadmaps and leverage the most effective resources and capabilities from across the company to deliver affordable, discriminating technical solutions and compelling competitive proposals that drive rapid development and repeatable, high-quality production for the Sensors portfolio.
  • You will position the Raytheon Sensors portfolio for the future by focusing investments and prioritizing resources to expand multi-use, common and composable technologies to rapidly deliver capabilities to the customer.
  • You will be the enterprise expert in sensor system and subsystem development and including advanced microelectronics, packaging, and array assembly/fabrication.
  • You will hold responsibility for all phases of technical, financial, and schedule performance on the sensor portfolio.
  • You will work closely with the Program Leadership Teams, Capture Leads, and Business Development to understand and communicate the needs and preferences of the customer, develop pursuit strategies and support capture efforts through engagement prior to Gate 0 through Gate 4, and support development of technical discriminators for current and future products, including:
    • Support the capture and execution of the SMART/FXR risk reduction programs.
    • Provide next-gen radar SME expertise.
    • Support Special Containerized Systems pursuits.
    • Support system integration/system of system strategy and pursuits.
  • You will work with the operations analysis teams to develop solution architectures and perform analysis of mission utility to inform customers, business decisions, and program execution via force-on-force simulation, data analysis, threat research, CONOPS development, technology pathfinding, and visualization.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task to achieve good results across multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and effectively direct, influence, motivate and supervise team members.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires: An Advanced Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 15 years of engineering experience.
  • Engineering team and Tech Director experience
  • Experience developing technology roadmaps
  • Experience leading Internal Research & Development projects
  • Minimum of 1 patent, externally reviewed peer publication, or committee chair within the last 10 years
  • Minimum of 1 symposium presentation or publication, or technology group leadership within last 10 years
  • Currently functioning at the performance level of the Principal Engineering Fellow grade such that developed technology is deployed; sought as lead principal fellow for support or expertise
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Top Secret security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Over 20 years of experience in radars in the aerospace industry
  • Patents or expertise in missile defense radar algorithms
  • Papers or publications on missile defense radars
  • Experience in radar domain physics and technologies, and US government and industry organizations and their test facilities and assets
  • Experience and professional network with the Missile Defense Agency
  • Capture effort coordination and developing proposals to obtain funding, spanning technical proposal development, work breakdown structures and cost estimation.
  • Experience working in new business capture, proposal development, technology evaluation, and technical contribution, with a record of contract wins
  • Experience on proposal technical volumes for contracts > $100M
  • Experience leading multi-disciplined team of engineers and technologists as a Chief Engineer or Lead Engineer on a major program
  • Certification as a Certified Architect
  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate activities across multiple facilities and locations.
  • Results-oriented work ethic and able to communicate effectively with senior leadership and other engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse team
  • Current DoD clearance for Top Secret
