An experienced engineer with subject matter expertise in HVAC system concept selection, design and qualification. Proven expertise in conducting system architecture studies, designing product families, and developing and executing qualification strategies. A successful principal engineer is expected to play a key role in defining system concepts and product families for new products. In addition, the principal engineering will be a mentor for earlier career engineers in key technical areas.
Responsibilities:
- Applies research and studies to the overall commercial HVAC system concept and integration, including key components and qualifications by working with engineering and cross-functional colleagues.
- Leads product concept selections, system integration, design, layout, development, testing, and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices, systems, sub-systems, and controls, while meeting standards of regulations, safety, quality, and other KPIs.
- Implements strategy for product development activities including engineering studies, feasibility studies, cost estimates, implementation of the standard and non-standard specifications, and development of performance or maintenance requirements.
- Executes tests and qualifications for systems, sub-systems, and components. Review test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives and direct modification of equipment to meet specifications.
- Makes and implements recommendations for improvements in product design (new and existing) and engineering productivity.
- Develops and tests models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess operating condition effects and possible new applications.
- Provides support and guidance on existing products. Communicates and collaborates with the quality clinic and related departments to ensure product quality.
- Works with managers and technical fellows to mentor and coach early career engineers for their technical expertise and career development
Candidate Attributes:
- MS or Ph.D. in mechanical or related engineering
- 10+ years of experience in the HVAC&R or related technology space
- A solid combination of analytical and experimental experience with product knowledge
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and mentorship skills
- Experience in ASHRAE/AHRI committees preferred
