The Collins Aerospace team seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer to support the CNS (Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance) Communications department. The Communications group supports, integrates, and develops multiple commercial avionics products for the Air Transport and Business and Regional aircraft markets developing new and next generation Satcom and Com systems.

A motivated Principal Electrical Engineer is being sought with a focus on success and a desire to join an industry-leading product team. Applicant must have demonstrated knowledge of the principles and techniques commonly used in electrical development. This position may encompass both new product development and legacy product sustaining support activities.

The applicant must be self-motivated, self-disciplined, with good communications skills, and a demonstrated ability to work within a multifunctional, multidiscipline team. The candidate will be required to demonstrate flexibility and an ability to coordinate with multiple suppliers and customers to achieve a common goal.  

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Design and analyze analog and RF circuits using schematic capture tools and performance simulation tools.

  • Characterize analog and RF signals using oscilloscopes, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.

  • Design and analyze digital circuits including computer hardware components (e.g., processors, memory, interfaces), and their performance characteristics (e.g., throughput, processing architecture, timing, capacity).

  • Provide supervision and technical guidance for PCB layout.

  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting using engineering lab equipment.

  • Develop requirements, test cases, test procedures for new and existing Com developments.

  • Perform validation and verification activities to ensure products meet design specifications.

  • Contribute to engineering estimates for limited to moderate scope of Electrical Design problems.

  • Review LRU defects trends, identify systemic root causes and process improvements and recommend new approaches, tools, techniques that drive continuous improvements in the development processes.

  • Review and maintain awareness of obsolete parts on assigned products. Provide appropriate resolution to obsolete parts.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience oran Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position.

  • Experience in design, debug, and test of analog, digital and RF design.

  • Experience with common circuit simulation platforms such as Spice, ADS etc.

  • Familiarity with HF/VHF Radio design.

  • Experience designing and analyzing analog and RF circuits using schematic capture tools and performance simulation tools.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience with RTCA DO-254 standards for Design Assurance Guidance for Airborne Electronic Hardware.

  • Familiarity with avionics design and certifications standards for commercial air transport applications.

  • Experience with DO-160 environmental/EMI qualification testing including Temperature, vibration, RF Emissions, RF Susceptibility, and/or Lightning.

  • Experience with model-based development.

  • 4 years in circuit level development engineering or holding a master's degree with Digital/RF/Microwave focus.

  • Familiarity with signal processing system simulation & analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink).

  • Experience with major types of lab test equipment (Power supplies, O ’scopes, Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers, Logic Analyzers, etc.).

  • Experience with Digital and RF design.

  • Familiarity with HF and VHF radio products design.

  • Experience working with embedded processors and FPGA’s.

  • Experience with Jira/JAMA/SVN/DOORS.

  • Experience with Mentor Graphics DX Designer Schematic capture and layout tools.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
