Job description

Reporting to the Chief Data Science Officer (CDSO), the Principal Advisor, Data Science Operations and Strategy is responsible for working closely with the CDSO as part of the JAX Data Science (JDS) leadership team to support the JDS vision and execution of its mission. This position will engage widely across stakeholders including faculty, staff, leadership, and external partners, to determine appropriate Data Science solutions, understand points of interaction among stakeholders, and drive solutions to adoption.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Act as strategic advisor to CDSO and represent JAX Data Science (JDS) with both internal and external stakeholders including staff, faculty, senior leadership to foster strong relationships among them.
  • Interact widely across JAX and the Roux Institute at Northeastern to support and communicate JDS strategic activities including developing and overseeing external partnerships.
  • With the JDS leadership team, advise, develop, and help manage the operational structure, capabilities, and service portfolio needed for the JDS to fulfill its mission.
  • Lead the development and/or re-engineering of new standards, procedures, operational and organizational strategies that ensure effective and efficient JDS Operational Processes.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies in Data Science and recommend best-in-class processes/procedures for using data to enable JAX's strategic objectives while minimizing financial impacts where applicable.
  • Drive complex project timelines, managing diverse stakeholders and holding cross-functional teammates accountable against deliverables, with clear alignment to big-picture goals and outcomes.
  • Handle inquiries related to JDS initiatives and Strategy; develop action plans and assist in preparation and dissemination of communications as needed.
  • Create and deliver presentations that effectively relay critical information.
  • In collaboration with the JDS leadership team, oversee daily Operations and ensures timely follow-up on cross-functional items, driving tasks to completion.
  • Participate in R&D activities supporting the JDS mission.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to all levels of JDS staff members.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Master's degree is required, Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in a leadership role managing complex projects and Data Science-related initiatives.
  • Strong managerial, program management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work closely with faculty & senior scientists as well as non-technical staff; to set priorities and directions for JDS.
  • Strategic, clear and broad thinker with demonstrated ability to identify gaps early, find solutions, and evaluate and integrate new opportunities
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with managing a broad range of technical experts. These experts may include scientists with expertise in computational models, analytical and statistical techniques.
  • Ability to manage and communicate with experts in Data Sciences, bioinformatics, machine learning and statistics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong experience architecting and managing analytical solutions
  • Strong experience establishing organizational norms and collaborations
  • Works well in collaborative team environments and matrix-reporting/management structures.
  • Effective influencer and integrator at all levels of the organization.

The salary range is $154,596 - $272,217. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
