Position Description

Principals at The Clearing lead a large, complex project or a portfolio of projects and are accountable for the quality of all project and client deliverables, client expectations and satisfaction, and their team member’s experience. Principals demonstrate business development acumen and results through the ability to drive organic and net new business growth. They contribute to internal capacity-building efforts, including developing the consulting skills of junior staff. Principals develop and maintain trusted relationships with clients. Principals ensure project and/or Account growth is rooted in TC’s corporate strategy and aligns with annual priorities.

Requirements

What You’ll Do

  • Lead/manage a large, complex project or a portfolio of projects successfully by scoping tasks and managing resources to complete such tasks on time, within budget, and to specifications
  • Manage project financials for a large, complex project or a portfolio of projects and oversee staff managing task-specific financials; ensure account/portfolio of projects meets or exceeds financial targets to ensure company financial success
  • Design short and long-term project plans
  • Kickoff, manage contract requirements, and close contracts effectively
  • Develop high-quality client-facing deliverables with established project quality standards and Solution-based products; demonstrate strong attention to detail and effective written communication skills; provide content review and feedback using past experiences, expertise, and understanding of client environment to guide teammates 
  • Facilitate moderate to high complexity meetings with demonstrated ability to achieve desired client and project outcomes
  • Support and/or lead research, data gathering, and analysis to inform the development of client solutions; synthesize and present results clearly
  • Own accountability for client’s success as it relates to final project outcomes, coordinating to achieve the work, and providing feedback and guidance to clients; develop and maintain trusted relationships with clients
  • Showcase critical thinking skills to evaluate needs, make initial recommendations, design the work, and partner with team members and company leadership to refine thinking and approaches to client challenges
  • Play key role (e.g., lead writer, proposal lead) on multiple, replicable proposals while developing the skills of junior consultants
  • Coach others to navigate the government contracting process; shorten the timeline between contracting and execution
  • Expand our potential market through external-facing content creation; identify and pursue new and different ways for TC to increase brand visibility (e.g., blogs and/or one pagers; industry networking events)
  • Identify and close net new leads, including managing the capture, proposal, and contract process
  • Contribute to updating or advancing our methodology, service offerings, and TC Solutions
  • Develop high-demand solutions as a product package for use across the company (includes marketing, sales, delivery, client success, and account growth)
  • Provide team with purpose and direction; set measurable standards of excellence for self and others; support employees with goal setting and managing performance 
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to teammate and client strengths and weaknesses to create a sense of belonging and to value individual contributions
  • Support the professional training and development of junior team members 
  • Translate the firm's vision, objectives, and expectations into meaningful goals and actions for others

What You’ll Bring

  • Top Secret Security Clearance required
  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • 8 years of professional work experience, including prior consulting experience
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation creation tools, internet research tools, and Google suite
  • Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance and/or a positive
    suitability determination by completing necessary background check investigations to perform client work
  • Willingness and ability to travel to client sites in the surrounding DC and Baltimore metro areas; occasional travel outside of these regions could be expected (5%)
  • Critical thinking/problem-solving skills, attention to detail, organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong business writing and verbal communication skills; strategic communication skills are highly desired
  • Flexible and adaptable mindset to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-paced, high-stakes client environments
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States, now and in the future, without the need for company (The Clearing) visa sponsorship now or in the future 
  • Desired skills, experiences, and certifications: Project or Program Management Certification (ex.: PMP) and/or Change Management certification (ex.: Prosci), strategic communication, and/or organizational design experience 

Physical and Mental Requirements

While performing duties of this job, an employee may be required to perform any, or all of the following: Attend meetings in and out of the office, travel (sometimes extensively); Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand; Communicate effectively (both orally and in writing); Ability to effectively use computers and other electronic and standard office equipment; Occasionally exerting up to 10 pounds to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work is primarily sedentary and involves sitting for several hours at a time. Occasionally walking, climbing stairs, and standing occur in this role. Additionally, this job requires certain mental demands, including the ability to use judgment, withstand moderate amounts of stress, and maintain attention to detail.
