Preschool Teacher

SUMMARY: Responsible for the care and instruction of children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and cognitive development through the Tallahassee Museum Preschool. This position is primarily responsible for following directions of the Preschool Director to help ensure that the class successfully achieves its goals and is run in an orderly and safe manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assists the Director in aspects of planning, classroom management, materials preparation and other duties to help ensure that the class runs in an orderly and safe manner.

Lead large and small group activities to stimulate development in language, social, and motor skills such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others and using play equipment.

Lead in instruction of children in practices of personal cleanliness and self-care.

Supervises children during meals and snacks.

Follows the posted cleanup checklist. Reports the need of maintenance or inadequate cleaning to the Preschool Director.

Complies with Florida Department of Children and Families Child Care Regulations and APPLE Accreditation guidelines where appropriate.

Complies with all Museum policies, procedures and practice.

Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No other employees are supervised by this position.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); CDA Florida Department of Children and Families childcare training. If the employee does not have these hours, he/she must begin fulfilling within 90 days of employment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the Museum.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Meets all state and local requirements for licensing. CDA. Has a valid driver's license and safe driving record. Must be certified in Pediatric First Aid/ CPR and Fire Extinguisher Training within 30 days of employment.
