St. Norbert School, a progressive, child-centered Catholic school is accepting applications for a Preschool Teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. We are seeking a classroom teacher who fulfills the mission of our Catholic school by planning, guiding, and evaluating the learning process of the students for whom the teacher is responsible within the framework of our school's philosophy, organization, and curriculum.
We are a faith-based school community that believes in offering each student a child-centered, challenging curriculum. We value creativity, social emotional awareness, and experience. We are in search of a candidate that understands the importance of educating the whole child.
The successful candidate will bring enthusiasm and dedication into daily classroom routines to foster the growth of young children. Lesson plans will be submitted monthly to reflect learning themes and learning goals explored throughout the school year. Routine and effective communication with both parents and staff is expected. Teacher will create a faith-friendly classroom that promotes the growth of all young learners. The successful candidate will provide a stimulating, safe, and developmentally appropriate educational environment where children have the opportunity to build cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. This position may ask candidates to lead and functionally supervise teacher's aides or assistants.
Candidate must be an enthusiastic, professional, dependable, warm, kind, innovative individual who has experience and qualifications per the State of Illinois to work with young children in an early childhood setting.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
• Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem solving appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of children.
• Plan and prepare classroom setting; oversee safety and educational programs; supervise children in the classroom; provide a supportive environment in which children can learn and practice appropriate and acceptable individual and group behaviors.
• Interact with parents and community groups; maintain open and cooperative communication with parents and families, encouraging their involvement in the program and supporting the child's family relationships.
• Write and compile individual assessments of each child's development; complete daily inventories, child attendance, and related reports.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
• Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution.
• Current Illinois educator's license
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
• Provides an environment in which each child has a positive, nurturing relationship with caring adults by encouraging a climate that is inviting, respectful, supportive, inclusive, and flexible.
• Records maintenance skills.
• Knowledge of elementary education programs and techniques.
• Knowledge of child development theory and practice.
• Ability to evaluate, design, and implement curriculum, testing, and/or teaching methodologies.
• Ability to provide activities for children that encourage healthy growth.
• Ability to exercise control and maintain classroom discipline.
• Knowledge of applicable safety procedures.
• Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children.
Accountability
The teacher is hired by and is directly accountable to the principal. The teacher agrees to abide by the educational policies and procedures of the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Office of Catholic Schools, as well as comply with the educational policies and procedures of St. Norbert School. The teacher cooperates with the principal and staff in providing an educational environment that promotes the ministry of Catholic education.
Schedule:
Monday & Friday: Students include both ½ and Full-Day students.
7:30-8:15- Prepare the classroom for the daily lesson. May need to help with preschool carpool duty based on staffing.
8:15-11- Teach lessons based on specific themes.
11- Dismiss ½-day morning children.
11:10-12:15- Lunch break while Beth takes the children to recess/lunch
12:15-12:30- Bathroom/prepare for nap time.
12:30-1:45- Rest Time
1:45-2:20- Wake up children, snack, story time.
2:30- Dismiss Children.
2:25-3:15- Prepare for the following school day.
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Half-Day morning children:
7:30-8:15- Prepare the classroom for the daily lesson. May need to help with preschool carpool duty based on staffing.
8:15-11- Teach lessons based on specific themes.
11- Dismiss ½-day morning children.
11-12:15- Help with preschool recess and lunch.
12:15-1:15- Lunch break.
1:15-2:15- Teach preschool enrichment to Pre-4.
2:15-2:30- See if any pre-k teachers need help with getting children ready for dismissal.
2:25-3:15- Prepare for the following school day.
