The Position
Job Appointment: Permanent Part-time
Work Schedule: Mon-Thurs 23-Hours per week, with the opportunity to work more hours as needed.
Work Location: Montavilla Community Center, 8219 NE Glisan, Portland, Oregon 97220

Position Summary:
Preschool Recreation Leaders play a crucial role as on-site educators, responsible for crafting and executing early childhood education programs tailored to children aged 3-5 years. This encompasses the design and implementation of preschool and/or pre-kindergarten curriculum and activities.
Specializing in Preschool Recreation Leadership involves collaborating with families and children from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. Effectively communicating concepts of early childhood development, curriculum details, and establishing classroom schedules and routines is a key aspect, ensuring clear understanding across cultures and in a manner suitable for young children.
Individuals in these roles are expected to be available during non-school days and summer months, actively participating in day camp programs. Flexibility in work hours, including afternoons, evenings, designated holidays, and weekends, may be required to meet the demands of the position.
What you'll get to do:
  • Design, develop, and implement age-appropriate curriculum which includes physical, social, and emotional development, language and literacy development, creative art & play, and early math and science skills.
  • Plan, organize, and implement classroom visits, special events, and field trips which may include collaboration with other organizations.
  • Assess, develop, and implement an engaging, well-managed classroom environment including schedules, routines, and activities which meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the children in the program.
  • Ensure children are always supervised in a safe and secure environment including using positive behavior management techniques including active supervision, and effective guidance techniques.
  • Provide direction to teaching aides, volunteers, and other teachers.

To Qualify
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
  1. Experience designing, developing, and implementing age-appropriate curriculum such as physical, social, and emotional development; language and literacy development; creative art and play; and early math and science skills.
  2. Experience assessing, developing, and implementing an engaging, safe, well-managed classroom environment such as schedules, routines, and activities which meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the children in the program.
  3. Ability to assess and adapt early childhood curriculums and educational programs to meet the needs of children of all abilities, and activities for families and children from a wide variety of cultural, racial/ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships through clear, courteous, and effective communication with internal and external partners such as teaching aides, diverse city employees, diverse program participants, and the public.

  • Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on the equally ranked eligible list.
