Position Details
Position Title:Prep Cook/ Dishwasher (Culinary Associate II)
Position Number: 102010
Department:UM Dining
Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), 12 months/year,
Hours vary due to needs of unit
Salary:$17.50/hr
Union Affiliation: FOCUS-MFPE
Probationary Period: Six months minimum
Benefits Include: Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan,
partial tuition waiver, and wellness program
Criminal Background Investigation is required prior to the Offer of Employment In accordance with University regulations, finalists for this position will be subject to criminal background investigations. UM Dining invites applications for a Prep Cook/ Dishwasherin the Food Zoo.
Responsibilities:
- Act in a lead capacity by training and supervising student workers in the proper operation of the dish washing machine & sinks, ingredient room, general kitchen cleanliness; following proper safety and sanitation procedures
- Provide and uphold high cleanliness and sanitation standards in both ware washing and kitchen cleaning
- In the absence of the receiver, effectively receive and store deliveries in a safe manner, following established procedures
- Enforce all ServSafe food safety procedures relating to ware washing and sanitation, food handling, storage, and time
- Maintain a positive work environment by providing direction, effective communication, opportunity for individual growth, and leadership by example
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors and managers
- Contribute to the success of UMCD as an active member of the UMCD Team and embrace the philosophies of the UMCD Mission, Vision, Shared Values and Guiding Principles
- Provide accurate knife cuts and ingredient measurements according to set recipe standards
- Provide quality food preparation and outstanding guest service
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and guest service skills
- Working knowledge and experience in food service
- Ability to remain productive in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge in operating a commercial dish machine and of cleaners and sanitizing solutions
- Knowledge of food safety practices and procedures
- Ability to effectively work independently and as a team member
- Ability to lift materials from floor level to table height, which requires mobility and some physical demands, and work in an environment with noise, chemicals, and varying temperatures
Minimum Required Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
