Duties
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works under the direction of a Registered Nurse/Nurse Manager with Patient Care Services (PCS). The LPN is responsible for observing, recording, and reporting changes in the patient's condition as well as assisting in the development and revision of the patient-driven holistic care plan for life. The The incumbent provides a wide range of clinical and technical services to the Veteran under general supervision of the Registered Nurse. The duties include checking in the patients, resolving appropriate clinical reminders, patient education, and assisting at the front desk. The LPN demonstrates active collaboration and communication with other members of the Patient Care Service. Additional technical and administrative support and other support duties as assigned.
Responsible and accountable for providing nursing care to individual and groups of patients for an aging, adult population. Incumbent demonstrates good clinical practice skills, problem-solving skills, and decision-making skills. This licensed Practical Nurse position is clinically and administratively responsible to the Director, Primary Care. Work Schedule: 7:30am -4:00pm or 8:00am - 4:30pm, also may include weekends. Schedule may vary to meet the needs of the service.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • English Language Proficiency: Written and Spoken
  • Physical Standards: All applicants must meet the physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to employment may be required.
  • Licensure: Full, active, current and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia.
  • Education: Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)] at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Health care education in the military service or training in the military service which is accepted by the licensing body in the jurisdiction in which the individual is licensed as qualifying for full LPN/LVN licensure will be accepted as meeting the education requirements for VHA employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Additional information
Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
