Job Description
The Transient & Power Systems Senior Consultant will use his/her technical & commercial background and expertise to execute power system simulations to analyze the impact of existing and new interconnected facilities to the transmission system. At the same time, he/she will be actively involved in pre-acquisition and business development activities to expand our client portfolio by identifying the specific challenges facing different market verticals. Later in the day, the Senior Consultant will interact with our Engineering colleagues and product owners to share the industry challenges and guide the R&D efforts of the business. Finally, he/she will help generate user-defined models for specific products and implement them in pertinent simulation studies as part of consulting project.
- Executing analyses of Power Systems, engagements regarding transmission network planning, system design and validation studies, and grid impact assessment of large generation, storage, and load resources.
- Supporting clients’ efforts to ensure a successful ISO new interconnection application and FERC approval.
- Supporting the integration of power electronic devices, inverter-based and synchronous generation, energy storage assets, HVDCs, FACTs, etc. into AC grids (from conceptual studies for new projects, passing through their commissioning, to assets in operations).
- Engaging in business development activities by presenting the capabilities of our offerings to existing and prospective clients.
- Presenting the results of the bespoke work to clients’ key stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical power engineering (Master’s or Ph.D. degree preferred) with relevant professional experience conducting power system analysis both in steady and transient states (minimum 8 years of experience) related to transmission and generation solution designs and EMT dynamic studies.
- Knowledge and experience in power system analysis, including insulation coordination and switching studies mainly oriented to validate the equipment insulation levels and CB capabilities. Deep understanding of causes, effects, and mitigation measures of Power Systems EMT phenomena like slow, fast, and very fast transient overvoltage, TRV, zero crossing missing, inrush, among others.
- Knowledge and experience in EMT dynamic and control stability studies of large-interconnected Power Systems, like detailed SSO and control interaction studies. Experience in developing/handling EMT models for synchronous and inverter-based generation, transmission (AC and DC) assets, drives, load, and grid stabilization equipment.
- Experience in power system simulation programs (e.g., PSCAD/EMTDC, EMTP-RV, PSS/E, TARA, PSLF, PowerFactory DigSilent, ETAP, MATLAB/Simulink).
