JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The laboratory of Prof Stephen J Benkovic at the Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position. The anticipated start date is as soon as possible.
The Benkovic lab is interested in gaining biochemical, biophysical, and structural insights into the purinosome metabolon. Purinosomes are a membraneless protein condensate that compartmentalize the de novo purine synthesis pathway leading to metabolic channeling and increased pathway flux.
Due to the dynamic and fragile nature of purinosomes, both in vitro and in vivo characterization of these condensates has been challenging and several aspects concerning their organization and function remain unanswered. We are looking for a talented and motivated postdoctoral candidate to address the biochemical and biophysical principles governing formation and regulation of the size, composition, and function of purinosomes. Therefore, expertise in mammalian cell culture, protein purification, protein condensate characterization, fluorescence imaging, mass spectrometry, and cryo-EM will be desirable in the candidate.
Education and Experience: The ideal applicant will have a Ph.D. in Chemistry/ Biochemistry/ Biophysics (or a related field) by the appointment date; a strong background in chemistry and biochemistry; a record of peer-reviewed publications; and an interest in fundamental research. In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.
This term position is funded for one year from the start date, with the possibility of renewal. Salary and benefits follow NSF/NIH guidelines; more information on benefits for Postdoctoral Scholars can be found at https://www.research.psu.edu/opa/benefits.
Application: Applicants must submit an application online and should include the following as attachments: a CV, three reprints, and a one- to two-page statement of research interests. This statement should describe the candidate's goals for research and training during a postdoctoral position, including previous experience.
Applicants should arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent separately to Stephen J Benkovic and Vidhi Pareek at sjb1@psu.edu and vup9@psu.edu, respectively. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
The Pennsylvania State University is committed to and accountable for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all its forms. We embrace individual uniqueness, foster a culture of inclusive excellence that supports both broad and specific diversity initiatives, leverage the educational and institutional benefits of diversity, and engage all individuals to help them thrive. We value inclusive excellence as a core strength and an essential element of our public service mission.
CAMPUS SECURITY CRIME STATISTICS:
Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters. The ASR is available for review here.
Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
