JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
A Postdoctoral Scholar position in Microbial Genomics of Foodborne Pathogens is available in the laboratory of Dr. Edward Dudley at The Pennsylvania State University. This is a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) funded position. The candidate will generate genome sequences of food and environmental bacteria as part of the FDA's GenomeTrakr program. Other requirements include curating and uploading data to the FDA, and participation in monthly phone calls and face-to-face project reports. Opportunities exist for this individual to develop independent projects in collaboration with the FDA, Pennsylvania Department of Health, and other GenomeTrakr participants in the areas of bacterial genomics as it relates to public health. The Dudley group is one of several labs in the Department of Food Science applying tools of molecular biology and genomics in food safety research. Penn State has excellent core facilities including genomics, proteomics, mass spectrometry, and metabolomics, and the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences maintains a campus-wide culture of excellence in microbiology, genomics, and microbiome research.
Education and Experience:
The candidate should have a Ph.D. with a strong background in microbiology and experience with microbial infectious disease agents. Leadership skills and a willingness to leverage expertise in collaborative projects with graduate students and postdoctoral fellows are expected.
