Job Summary
The Department of Microbiology and Immunology and the Institute for Molecular Medicine and Infectious Disease (IMMID), Center for Translational Plasma Research (CTPR) at Drexel University College of Medicine is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher. The IMMID/CTPR is a small, well-equipped center located in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and the Institute for Molecular Medicine and Infectious Disease of Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA, USA and jointly led by Vandana Miller, MD and Fred Krebs, PhD. Our interdisciplinary research focuses on understanding the fundamental mechanism of action of nonthermal plasma (NTP) and its application as an emerging preventative agent and/or therapeutic. Our team currently has one PhD and one MS student with rotating undergraduate and graduate co-operative education students. We collaborate with scientists across the world on different projects. This is a two-year position (with potential for extension) funded through an existing NIH R01 grant.
Essential Functions
We are looking for a motivated candidate to work on the ongoing and future extramurally funded research projects. These include collaborative projects focused on biofilm remediation (Drexel), therapeutic effects of NTP in in vitro and murine disease models of wound healing (North Carolina State University and Rutgers University), therapeutic application of NTP to cancer (Drexel, Thomas Jefferson, INP Greifswald, etc.) and use of NTP to treat/cure viral infections (HSV and HIV at Drexel, University of Minnesota). There is an additional DOE-funded project focused on fundamental mechanisms of NTP action in collaboration with Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory and Princeton University. You will also share the responsibility of training and mentoring the students through their projects with the PIs. There will be opportunities to acquire experience in preparing and submitting grant proposals. There will be significant opportunities for autonomy in developing future research directions within the IMMID/CTPR.
Required Qualifications
- PhD or MD/PhD in Biomedical Sciences/Biomedical Engineering or another related field.
- Minimum of a year of experience.
- Strong scientific track record, including peer reviewed publications and conference presentations.
- Techniques in cell biology, molecular biology, virology, immunology
- Experience in murine disease models
- Data analysis and statistics
- Good time and task management skills
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in a small group or one-on-one settings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with high throughput imaging desirable, but not required.
- Familiarity with NTP devices is desirable, but not required.
- Experience in mentorship and training is desirable.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt grade I. Compensation for this grade ranges from [$ 41,120 to $ 61,680 per year]. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
