Description:

Position Summary
This position is responsible for supporting the expansion of TA training resources and programming at UIC. In coordination with the associate director, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will coordinate the TA workshops series, create and deploy surveys, process and manage data, and contribute to summary reports and conference presentations to disseminate TA training program findings and impact.


Duties & Responsibilities

Postdoctoral Research Associate
In coordination with the associate director, evaluate TA training workshops and courses, measuring their impact and making recommendations for improvement

Collect data by creating and deploying surveys using Qualtrics survey software.

Process and manage data by entering, and analyzing quantitative survey data using Excel and statistical software such as SPSS or R.

Contribute to summary reports and conference presentations to disseminate program findings and impact.

Coordinate the TA workshop series.

Assist with planning implementation of Campus-Wide New TA Orientation, and recruitment and training of graduate students who develop and lead workshops for Teaching Assistants.

Engage in professional development trainings and activities to support growth as scholar and educator.

As available, engage in scholarly collaborations with CATE staff, instructors, and other on-campus and community partners.

VisitingLecturer
Develop a Teaching Assistant Fundamentals course designed to engage graduate student TAs at early stages of experience in the classroom to help them prepare for their current or future Teaching Assistant roles.

Serve as the instructor for the Teaching Assistant Fundamentals course 1 to 2 semesters per year depending on campus interest and demand.

Create teaching development workshops and online resources for Teaching Assistants.

Assist with marketing to further buy-in and interest in TA training by colleges and departments towards the goal of increasing enrollment in the TA training course and workshop participation.

 

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD, EdD or other doctoral degree in an academic discipline received within the last five years
  • Two or more semesters of college teaching as a TA or instructor of record
  • Familiarity with the literature on evidence-based teaching and learning
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in higher education with knowledge of matters relevant to UIC context and the lived experiences of UIC students
  • Ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines, and pay attention to details
  • Ability to work independently and as a productive, constructive team member
  • Ability to work hybrid schedule

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a teaching and learning center or participating in teaching and learning center programming
  • Quantitative and/or qualitative research skills
